# Common problems

> What to do when something does not work: signing in, the chat, tokens, tabs, sound, voice and video, sheets and plugins, files.

## Account and connection

### I forgot my password

Password recovery by e-mail does not exist yet. **Forgot password**, on the sign-in screen, explains it: ask the administrator of the RPG Desk server to reset your password.

### “Connection problem” or “Connecting…”

- **Connection problem**, when signing in: RPG Desk cannot reach the server. Check your internet and try again; if it continues, the server may be down.
- **Connecting…**, at the top of the room: the connection dropped, and RPG Desk comes back by itself when it returns. Nothing you already did is lost.

## In the room

### The room asks for a password

Some rooms have a password. Ask the game master for it and type it in **Room password**, in [Explore](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/explorar/).

### I cannot write in the chat

- **“a game master took away your permission to talk”**: you were silenced. Ask a game master to **Allow to talk**.
- **“the chat is moderated”**: only game masters and people with voice can talk. See [Moderated chat](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/papeis/#moderated-chat).

### The chat disappeared or does not show old messages

- Did you use `/cls` or `/prink`? Type `/reload`.
- The game master may have chosen that each person only sees what happened since they first joined (in **Room settings → Permissions**).
- A game master may have hidden the chat from you (**Hide the chat from them**): you only see your own messages and the system notices.

### I cannot move my token

- The token has to be yours: the game master chooses **Who can move it**, in the token’s properties.
- With token vision on, walls stop the token (the game master goes through).

### I closed a tab by accident

- The **Tabs** submenu, in the room menu (right-click the room’s icon, in the bar on the left), reopens the **Participants**, the **Library**, the **Music**, the **Sound effects**, the **Files** and the room tables (like the **Combat tracker**).
- Sheets and scenes reopen from the library, with a double-click.
- To go back to the initial arrangement: **Tabs → Restore the starting layout**, in the room; for every room, **Settings → Troubleshooting → Forget the room arrangements**.

### I cannot hear the music

- If **“The browser held the table’s sound. Click to listen.”** shows up, click it: the browser only plays sound after a click on the page.
- Check **My volume**, on the **Music** tab, the **Effects volume**, on **Sound effects**, and the **Overall volume**, in **Settings → Notifications**.

### The 3D dice slow everything down, or the screen flickers

- Turn off **Show 3D dice on rolls**, in **Settings → Dice**; or
- turn on the **No-lighting mode**, in **Settings → Dice**, for graphics cards with issues.

### The new window does not open

The browser blocked the pop-up window. Allow pop-up windows for RPG Desk’s address and try again. See [Windows and several rooms](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/janelas/).

## Voice and video

| RPG Desk says | What to do |
| ----------------------------------------------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **The browser didn’t allow the microphone.** | Click the padlock next to the address, allow the **Microphone** (and the **Camera**) and join the call again. |
| **Couldn’t open the microphone.** (or **the camera**) | Another program may be using the device (Discord, Zoom, OBS). Close it, or choose another device in **Settings → Audio and video**. |
| **The connection to someone failed.** | Some networks (companies, schools and some mobile carriers) do not allow a direct connection between computers, and RPG Desk does not have a server that relays voice yet. Try another network. |

- Nobody hears you? Use **Test the microphone**, in **Settings → Audio and video**: the bar should move when you speak.
- The others hear an echo? Use headphones.
- The call works well up to about six people.

## Sheets and plugins

### The plugin does not install

RPG Desk checks the plugin before installing and shows what is wrong, with the file and the line. **Copy report** copies everything to paste into a conversation with the AI that made the sheet. Each problem is explained in [The verifier](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/referencia/verificador/).

### The sheet shows a ⚠

It is the **Page errors** button: something went wrong in the sheet’s code. Open it, click **Copy errors** and send them to whoever made the sheet (or to the AI). See [Test and develop](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/fichas/desenvolvimento/).

### The sheet does not let me change a field

- The sheet belongs to someone else: only the owner and the game masters change it.
- The part belongs to the game masters only, or to the owner only. See [Private parts](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/fichas/partes-privadas/).

### A sheet button sends something out, but nothing happens

Webhooks need the service’s address (Zapier, Make or IFTTT), which the game master pastes in **Room settings → Plugins**, under the plugin’s **Integrations** button. See [Integrations](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/integracoes/).

### The sheet shows the “Test mode” band

The page was opened outside RPG Desk (the file straight in the browser). That is test mode: the data stays in this browser only. To use it in the room, install the plugin in **Room settings → Plugins**.

## Files

- **“your file space is full: delete files or change your plan”**: delete files you no longer use in [Desk Cloud](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/arquivos/), or talk to the server’s administrators about a plan with more space. Nothing was deleted. See [Plans and space](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/planos/).
- **“the file is over your plan’s limit”**: the largest file is 25 MB on Free and 100 MB on the paid plans.
