Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/ RPG Desk is a virtual tabletop for RPGs. The group meets in a **room**: they talk in the chat or by voice, roll dice (in 3D, for everyone to see), keep the characters’ sheets and explore the adventure’s map. It runs in the browser, with nothing to install, [on a phone](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/celular/) too. *Screenshot:* A RPG Desk room: the library on the left, the chat in the middle with narration and a roll, and the participants on the right, with the characters' health and energy bars. ## For players 1. [Create your account](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/conta/) and pick a picture in **Settings → Profile**. 2. Find a room in **Rooms**, or open the link the game master sent you: see [Find a room and join](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/explorar/). 3. In the room, you arrive as a **spectator**. The game master makes you a player and, usually, creates your character’s sheet. 4. Talk in the [chat](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/chat/), roll the [dice](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/dados/) and fill in your [sheet](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/fichas/). ## For game masters 1. [Create your room](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/primeira-mesa/) and send the link to the players. 2. Install the sheet plugin the room will use, in **Room settings → Plugins** (see [Room plugins and tables](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/plugins/)). 3. Build the first [scene](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/mapa/), with the map and the tokens. 4. When the players arrive, make them players and create their sheets: see [Players’ sheets](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/fichas-dos-jogadores/). ## In this section [Create an account and sign in](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/conta/): Signing up, the password and the language. [The home screen](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/tela-inicial/): The navigation bar and Home. [Find a room and join](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/explorar/): Explore, the search and each room's details. [Create your room](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/primeira-mesa/): For game masters: from zero to the first session. [Profile, friends and conversations](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/perfil-e-amigos/): Your profile, the Friends & chat panel, conversations and invites. [Desk Cloud](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/arquivos/): Maps, images and music kept in RPG Desk. [Your preferences](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/configuracoes/): The Settings pages, one by one. [On your phone](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/celular/): Installing it as an app, the room tabs and the gestures. # Create an account and sign in > How to create your RPG Desk account, sign in, stay signed in and change the language. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/conta/ To play, you need an account. Signing up has two steps and takes a minute. ## Create the account 1. On the sign-in screen, click **Don’t have an account? Create one now**. 2. Fill in the **E-mail** and the **Account name**, and choose **How should we refer to you?** (masculine, feminine or neutral). Click **Continue**. 3. Choose the **Password**, type it again in **Repeat the password**, check **I have read and accept the terms of use** and click **Create account**. *Screenshot:* The first sign-up step: e-mail, account name and how to refer to the person, with the Continue button. - The **account name** is how other people see you. It has 3 to 24 characters: letters, numbers, spaces, periods, hyphens or underscores. It must be unique: if it is taken, RPG Desk tells you. - The **password** needs at least 8 characters. - The form of address lets RPG Desk’s texts refer to you the right way (this matters in Portuguese, where words change with gender). ## Sign in On the sign-in screen, use your **account name or e-mail** and your password, and click **Sign in**. *Screenshot:* The RPG Desk sign-in screen, with the account and password fields, the Keep me signed in option and the link to create an account. - **Keep me signed in** signs you in automatically next time, in this browser. Unchecked, the session ends when you close the tab. - **Sign out** is at the bottom of the navigation bar, on the left. > **Forgot your password?** > > Password recovery by e-mail is not available yet. Ask whoever runs the RPG Desk server to change your password. If you still remember it, you can change it in **Settings → Account and security**. ## Language RPG Desk speaks Portuguese and English. It picks the language of your browser, and you can change it whenever you want: - on the sign-in screen, in the selector at the top (**English**); - after signing in, in **Settings → General → Language**. ## In the Windows app Besides the browser, RPG Desk has a Windows app with the same interface. The first time, if it cannot find the RPG Desk server, it shows a page where you enter the address. Ask whoever runs the server for it. # The home screen > The navigation bar on the left and Home, with your last room and your rooms. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/tela-inicial/ After you sign in, RPG Desk opens on **Home**. From here you reach everything through the navigation bar on the left. *Screenshot:* RPG Desk's Home: the greeting with the search and Create room at the top, the Pick up where you left off highlight with the last room, Your tables in tabs (Recent, Mine, Favorites) and Looking for a new table?, with the most played systems. ## The navigation bar From top to bottom: | Button | What it opens | | -------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Home** | this screen | | **Rooms** | Explore, to find and create rooms (see [Find a room and join](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/explorar/)) | | **Desk Cloud** | your files stored in RPG Desk (see [Desk Cloud](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/arquivos/)) | | *open rooms* | one button for each room you are in, with the initials of its name (see [Windows and several rooms](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/janelas/)) | | **Settings** | your preferences (see [Your preferences](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/configuracoes/)) | | **Sign out** | ends the session | Hover over a button to see its name. A number on a room’s button shows what arrived while it was in the background. Friends and conversations are in the **Friends & chat** panel, in the bottom-right corner (see [Profile, friends and conversations](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/perfil-e-amigos/)). ## Home - **At the top:** the search, which looks for rooms by name, system or game master and opens the results in Explore, and **Create room**. - **Pick up where you left off:** the last room you joined, with its system, whether it has a password, when you were there and how many people are in it now (and whether the game master is). **Join the table** joins it (or **Back to the table**, if it is already open); **Invite players** copies the room link for you to send to your players. - **Your tables:** three tabs, each with how many rooms it has. Your own rooms are only here, not in Explore: - **Recent**, where you have been (except the highlighted one); - **Mine**, the ones you created or where you are an assistant game master; - **Favorites**, the ones you kept from the card’s **⋮** menu. Click a card to join. If the room has a password, its overview opens first and asks for it. The **⋮** has like, favorite, the overview and copy link. With more than 11 rooms in a tab, **Show all** opens the rest. **See all rooms** opens Explore, and **Create a new table** opens room creation. - **Looking for a new table?:** the systems used most in public rooms. Click one to open Explore on **All rooms**, with that system ticked; **Explore rooms** opens Explore. Prefer to open Explore right away? In **Settings → General → When signing in, open**, choose **Rooms**. # Find a room and join > Explore: the room lists, the filters, each room's details and how to join. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/explorar/ Click **Rooms**, in the bar on the left, to open **Explore**. The filters are in the left column and the rooms on the right; click a room to see its details and join. Your own rooms (recent, favorites and the ones you created) are on [Home](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/tela-inicial/). *Screenshot:* Explore on the Playing now list: the filter column on the left and, on the right, room cards with a cover, the system, who is at the table and badges such as Looking for players. ## The lists At the top of the column, **Show** picks the list. Each one says how many rooms it has with the current filters. | List | What it shows | | --------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------ | | **Featured** | the most liked and favorited rooms, and the ones with more people online | | **Playing now** | rooms with someone in them right now | | **Discover** | rooms you have never joined, newest first | | **All rooms** | every public room, plus the ones you run | Above the rooms, on the right: - **Sort** switches between **recommended** and **most people online**; - **Grid** and **List** change how the rooms are shown: cards with a cover, or one row per room; - **New room** creates a room. The list refreshes by itself while it is on screen. ## The room card Each card shows the cover with the system, the name, the game master’s status message, how many people are at the table right now and whether the game master is there. The badges tell you more: - **Your room**: you created it; - **You are GM**: you are one of its assistant game masters; - **Looking for players**: the game master is taking new people; - **Password**: you need the password to join; - **Favorites**: it is in your favorites; - **18+**: content for adults. Right-click a card (or use its actions button) to: - **Like this room** or **Not for me**: these count for Featured; - **Keep in favorites**; - **Details**; - **Copy room link**: a link to send to someone. *Screenshot:* The menu on the card of the room Neon & Chrome, already liked: undo like, not for me, keep in favorites, details and copy room link. ## Details and joining Click the card to open the details. The cover shows the system, the name, the status and the badges. Right below are how many people are in the room now, the game master and when the room was created; then the description, its traits and your last visit. **Enter room** takes you in. The details also let you keep the room in your favorites (the star, at the top), like it, mark it “not for me” and copy its link, next to the button that takes you in. *Screenshot:* The details of the room Neon & Chrome: the cover with the system, the name and the Looking for players badge; the strip with 2 people in the room, Luana as game master and the creation date; the description, the traits and, at the bottom, like, not for me, copy link and Enter room. - If the room has a password, the details show the **Room password** field. - **Talk to the GM** opens a chat with the room owner, to ask something before joining, even if you aren’t friends yet. - The first time, you join as a **spectator**: you can watch and chat, but you have no sheet. The game master makes you a player. Next time, you come back with the role you had. - If you are already in the room, the button becomes **Back to the room**. ## The filters The filters work on any list, and the ones that are on show up under the title: - **the search**, at the top: it looks in the name, system, game master, status and description. It also finds traits by name, like “fantasy” or “beginner friendly”; - **Status**: **GM in the room**, **No password** and **Looking for players**; - **System**: the systems of the rooms in the list, each with how many rooms it has. Tick one or more; - **Traits**: one click shows only rooms with the trait (it turns green); a second, only rooms without it (it turns orange and struck through); a third removes the filter. **Clear filters** turns everything off at once. On a phone, the search and the lists stay at the top, and the rest opens from the **Filters** button. *Screenshot:* All rooms with the Fantasy trait ticked: the filter column, with Fantasy in green, and the rooms found. > **Rooms that do not show up** > > - Rooms for adults are hidden from Explore. To see them, with the 18+ badge, change **Settings → General → Rooms for adults (18+)**. > - The game master can **Hide from Explore** their room. Then it can only be found through its link. ## Join through a link The game master can send the room’s link (**Copy room link**, in the card’s menu). Whoever opens the link goes straight into the room, after signing in to RPG Desk. If the room has a password, they will need it: in that case, they find the room in Explore and type the password in the details. # Create your room > For game masters: create the room, invite the players and get everything ready for the first session. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/primeira-mesa/ Creating a room takes a minute. Then you invite the players and prepare the adventure. ## Create 1. In **Rooms**, click **+ New room** (or, on Home, **Create a room**). 2. Fill in the dialog: - **Room name**: at least 5 letters; - **System** and **Details**: the game and the edition or setting (“Generic d20”, “Dark fantasy”); - **Traits**: click the ones that fit the room (up to 12). They help the search in Explore; - **Welcome message**: shows up in the chat for whoever joins. It accepts [formatting](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/referencia/formatacao/), such as `# heading` and `**bold**`; - **Require a password**, with the **Password**, if the room is invitation-only; - **Hide from Explore**, if it should not appear in the lists. 3. Click **Create and enter**. You enter the room as its game master. *Screenshot:* The New room dialog filled in: name, system, details, chosen traits and welcome message. You can change all of this later, in **Room settings** (see [Room settings](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/configurar-mesa/)), which also has the cover, the status message and the **Looking for players** badge. ## Invite the players 1. In **Rooms → Mine**, right-click the room’s card and choose **Copy room link**. 2. Send the link to the players. Whoever opens it goes straight into the room (with a password, they will need it too). 3. When each one arrives, right-click their name, in **Participants**, and choose **Make player**. Whoever joins for the first time comes in as a spectator. ## Prepare the first session 1. **The sheet:** install the sheet plugin for your system in **Room settings → Plugins → Install plugin…**. See [Room plugins and tables](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/plugins/). If nobody has made a sheet for your system yet, you can [create one](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/fichas/), by hand or with help from an AI. 2. **The players’ sheets:** right-click the player, in **Participants**, and choose **Create a sheet for…**. See [Players’ sheets](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/fichas-dos-jogadores/). 3. **The map:** in the library, **New item → New scene**, and choose the map image. See [Building the scene](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/mapa/). 4. **Combat:** enable the **Combat tracker** in **Room settings → Plugins**. See [Combat tracker](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/combate/). > **Tip** > > New library items (folders, sheets and scenes) start hidden from players. When the scene is ready, right-click it and choose **Make visible to everyone**. # Profile, friends and conversations > Your public profile, the Friends & chat panel, friend requests, conversations and table invites. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/perfil-e-amigos/ ## Your profile In **Settings → Profile** you choose your picture (**Avatar**) and write what other people see: **About**, **Likes to play** and **Usually plays**. Your picture shows up in the friends list, on your profile and on your card in rooms. *Screenshot:* The Profile section of Settings, with the picture, the button to choose another one, the About, Likes to play and Usually plays fields and the preview of how others see it. In a room, you can use a different picture just there, your character’s: see [Participants](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/participantes/#your-picture-in-this-room). ## Other people’s profiles Right-click someone’s name (in a room or in the friends list) and choose **View profile**. *Screenshot:* Davi's profile: picture, Silver rank, level, date they joined RPG Desk, reputation, the approve and disapprove arrows and the profile texts. - **Rank and level:** the rank (**Silver**, **Gold**, **Platinum** or **Ruby**) goes up with reputation; the level goes up with activity (rooms created, friends and messages). - **Reputation:** approvals minus disapprovals. Use the arrows to approve or disapprove the person; clicking again undoes it. - **Chat**, **Add friend** and **Block** are at the bottom of the profile. ## Friends & chat The **Friends & chat** panel sits in the bottom-right corner on every screen: Home, Explore and inside rooms, on top of everything. Click its header to open and close it. To hide the panel, turn off **Show the Friends & chat panel** in **Settings → Chat**. *Screenshot:* The Friends & chat panel open in the corner, with friends At a table and Online, and next to it the chat window with Davi. - **The header** shows your picture and how many friends are online. With the panel closed, it also shows how many messages you haven’t read. - **Your status:** click your picture to choose: - **Online:** the usual. After about 10 minutes without using RPG Desk, you show as **Away**; - **Busy:** friends see the red dot. Messages arrive and stay unread, but with no sound, no notice and without opening the chat. Good for when you are running a game; - **Offline:** friends see you as disconnected. You still see your friends and get their messages. Inside a room, the people in it still see you. Your status is saved in your account and stays until you change it, on any computer. - **Search friends** filters the list by name. When nobody has that name, **Look for it on RPG Desk** takes the name to **Requests**. - **Friends** come in groups that open and close: - **At a table:** in a room. A public room shows its name; a private or password-protected room shows just **At a table**; - **Online:** connected. **Away** (with the orange dot) means they haven’t used RPG Desk for about 10 minutes; **Busy** (with the red dot) means they chose that status; - **Offline:** disconnected, with when they were last seen; - **Other conversations:** people who aren’t your friends and exchanged messages with you, the most recent conversation first (see [Chatting with people who aren’t your friends](#chatting-with-people-who-arent-your-friends)); - **Hidden:** the friends you hid from the list, folded away at the end. - **A friend’s menu** (the **⋯**, a right-click or a long press): **Chat**, **View profile**, **Invite to this table**, **Hide from the list** (or **Show in the list**), **Unfriend** and **Block**. ## Friend requests In the **Requests** tab (or with the add button next to the tabs): - **Add friend:** type the person’s user name and press **Send** (or Enter). Similar names show up as you type. - **Sent:** requests waiting for an answer, with **Cancel**. - **Received:** people who want to be your friend, with the message that came along. Accept with ✓ or decline with ✕. The tab shows how many requests arrived. *Screenshot:* The Requests tab: the Add friend field and, under Received, Teo's request with the message and the accept and decline buttons. The **Blocked** tab lists the people you blocked, with **Unblock**. People you block can’t send you messages, requests or table invites. ## Conversations Click a friend to open the chat in a window at the bottom, next to the panel. Up to three windows fit side by side; opening one more closes the oldest. - **Enter** sends; **Shift+Enter** starts a new line. - While your friend writes, **typing…** shows up. - **—** minimizes the window and **✕** closes it. Minimized, it shows how many messages arrived. - When someone without an open window sends a message, the chat shows up at the bottom, minimized and highlighted, with the usual sound and notice. - Messages are kept and arrive even when the person is away. A chat becomes read when you open it. ## Chatting with people who aren’t your friends You can also chat with people who aren’t your friends yet, like the GM of a table you want to join: - **Talk to the GM** opens a chat with the owner of the room. It is in the room overview, in Explore, and, inside the room, in the room menu and at the top of the **Participants** tab. - **Chat**, in someone’s menu in **Participants** (a right-click on the name) or in their profile, opens a chat with them. - The window says you’re not friends yet, with **Add friend** and **Block**. People who aren’t your friends don’t see whether you are online or which room you are in. - The chat goes to **Other conversations**, in the panel. Its menu has **Remove from list**: it goes away until a new message arrives. - **To get messages from friends only**, turn off **Get messages from people who aren’t your friends** in **Settings → Account and security**. People you wrote to can still reply. ## Inviting friends to a table Inside a room, **Invite friends** (at the top of the Participants tab, or in the room menu, from the room’s name) lists your friends: tick who you want and click **Invite**. The invite arrives in the chat as a card with **Join**. For a password-protected room, whoever you invite needs the password to get in. > **Tip** > > To talk privately with someone **inside a room**, use the room’s private chat (right-click the name in **Participants**). See [Chat](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/chat/#private-and-group-conversations). New message notices (sound, system notice, flashing title) are in **Settings → Notifications**. ## On a phone The **Friends** tab in the bottom bar opens the panel full screen; inside a room, the friends button is at the top. A chat opens in place of the list, with a back button. See [On your phone](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/celular/). # Desk Cloud > Desk Cloud: your maps, tokens, tracks and documents, in folders, with the rooms that can open each one, the trash and right-click menus. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/arquivos/ Everything you upload to RPG Desk is kept in your **Desk Cloud**, the cloud in the bar on the left: a scene’s map, a token’s picture, a song, a PDF sent in the chat. There you organize the files in folders, choose which rooms can open each one and use the files in a room. *Screenshot:* Desk Cloud: on the left the views, the rooms, the folders and the space per type; in the middle the folders and the files as cards, with each one's type and rooms; on the right the details of a map, with Use in a room and Who can open. ## The page - **On the left:** - **All files**, **Recent** (the ones uploaded or used last), **Favorites** and **Trash**; - **Rooms**: each room with your files linked to it, and **Only you · no room**, the ones no room sees; - **Folders**: your folders, one inside another. The little arrow opens and closes them, and **+** creates a folder; - **Storage**: the space used and your plan (click it to see the plan), the bar per type, the largest file you can upload and **See plans**. See [Plans and space](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/planos/). - **In the middle**, the open place: the path (Desk Cloud › Folders › Campaign), **New folder** and **Upload files**, the search, the types, the order and the switch between grid and list. Folders show up as blocks at the top, and files below. - **On the right**, the details of the file you clicked: the preview, the name (the pencil renames it), **Open**, **Download**, **Copy link**, **Trash**, **Use in a room**, **Who can open** and the information (the type, the size, the dimensions or the duration, the folder and when it was uploaded). Each file has a **type**: Map, Token, Audio, Document or Other. RPG Desk picks it on upload (a small, almost square image is a token; another image, a map; what you drop on the scene, a token). To change it, use **Type** in the right-click menu. ## Uploading - **Upload files**, at the top, or drag files from your computer onto the page. In a folder or a room, the upload goes into it. - The queue, in the corner, shows each file’s progress and cancels what has not gone yet. - The space and the largest file depend on your plan: on Free, 100 MB and files up to 25 MB. What goes over the limit never leaves your computer: the queue tells you the limit and shows the plans that take the file. ## Finding - The search looks for the name in the open place (in a folder, also in the ones inside it). - The type buttons (**Maps**, **Tokens**, **Audio**, **Documents**, **Other**) show how many there are of each. - The order: **Newest**, **Name** or **Largest first**. The grid shows the thumbnails; the list, one row per file, with the rooms that can open each one. - Audio plays right on the card, only for you. - A double click (or **Open**) opens the full-screen preview: the arrows move between files, and Esc closes it. A PDF opens in the browser’s viewer. ## The right-click menu Everything has a right-click menu: files, folders, the rooms on the side, the trash, the empty area and the uploads in the queue. On a phone, hold your finger; **…** opens the same menu. *Screenshot:* The right-click menu of a map, with the Move to submenu open: the folders used last, Choose folder and Take out of the folder. | Where | What it has | | ------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | A file | **Open**, **Use in a room**, **Download**, **Copy link**, **Rename**, **Move to**, **Type**, **Favorite**, **Who can open…** and **Move to trash** | | Several selected | **Download .zip**, **Who can open…**, **Move to**, **Type**, **Favorite** and **Move to trash** | | A folder | **Open**, **New folder here**, **Upload files here**, **Rename**, **Move to…**, **Download .zip** and **Delete folder** | | A room, on the side | **Open the room**, **Upload files to this room** and **Download .zip** with your files in it | | The empty area | **Upload files**, **New folder**, **Select all**, **Sort by** and **View as** | | The trash | **Restore**, **Delete forever** and **Empty the trash** | ## Folders and selection - Folders can have folders inside, up to 8 levels. To move, use **Move to** in the right-click menu or drag the file (or the folder) onto a folder, on the side or in the block. Dragging onto a room on the side links the file to it. - The “Moved” notice has **Undo**. - **Selecting several:** the card’s checkbox, Ctrl (or Cmd) with a click, and Shift with a click to take a range. With something selected, the bar at the top becomes the one for bulk actions. | Key | What it does | | ------ | -------------------------------------------------------- | | Enter | opens the file | | F2 | renames it | | Delete | moves it to the trash (in the trash, deletes it forever) | | Ctrl+A | selects everything | | Esc | drops the selection and closes the details | ## Who can open Linking a file to a room lets the people in the room open the file. Use **Who can open…** in the right-click menu, or **Manage** in the details: the rooms where you are a game master show up (and the ones where you play, only to unlink). *Screenshot:* The Who can open dialog: you as the owner, your rooms with a checkbox each and the reminder that the file stays in your Desk Cloud. > **No spoilers** > > Linking is not showing. In the room, only the game masters see the list of files linked to it; the players open what the game master shows them (the scene, the chat, the music). You can prepare the next session’s maps without anyone peeking. What you use in a room (the scene’s map, the tokens, the songs, the chat attachments) is already linked to it. If the room is deleted, the files stay in your Desk Cloud, only yours. ## Use in a room In the details, the right-click menu and the preview, **Use in a room** does with the file what its type asks for: | Type | Actions | | ----- | --------------------------------------------------------------- | | Map | **Open as a new scene** or **Use as the open scene background** | | Token | **Put on the open scene** | | Audio | **Play for the room** or **Add to the playlist** | | Any | **Send in the chat** | The room opens and RPG Desk does the rest. The scene and music actions are for game masters; sending in the chat works for anyone who can talk in the room. If the file was not linked to the room yet, it is linked first. ## The Files tab, in the room In the room, the **Files** tab shows the files linked to it, by type (on a phone, it is under **More**). It opens from the room menu → **Tabs** → **Files**. *Screenshot:* The room's Files tab: the search, the types, the tokens and maps as thumbnails (with the On the scene badge on the open map), the tracks with the play button and, at the bottom, All of Desk Cloud and Upload. - **Tokens:** drag them onto the scene, and the token shows up where you drop it. - **Maps:** a click opens it as a new scene. The **On the scene** badge marks the open scene’s background. Dragging onto the scene changes the background (if the scene already has one, RPG Desk asks first). - **Tracks:** the button plays them for everyone (and pauses). - **Documents:** the button sends them in the chat. - Any file can be dragged onto the chat (it becomes an attachment), and tracks onto the music player. - **All of Desk Cloud** links files you already have to the room; **Upload** sends new files, already linked to it. - Players see here only their own files linked to the room. ## The trash - **Move to trash** takes the file out of the views and the rooms: players can no longer open it. The notice has **Undo**. - In the trash, it stays for 30 days and still counts toward your space. After that, it is gone for good. - **Restore** brings the file back to its folder and its rooms. **Delete forever** deletes it right away: maps, songs and messages that used the file stop showing it. - Deleting a folder moves its files (and the files of the folders inside it) to the trash. ## Download and copy link - **Download** downloads the file. With several selected, or in a folder, **Download .zip** puts it all in a zip (a folder goes with the folders inside it), up to 500 files and 2 GB. - **Copy link** copies a link to the file, which expires after a few hours. ## On a phone The top of the page has the space, the search and the place: tap it to choose a view, a room or a folder. Tapping a file opens its details in a sheet; holding your finger starts the selection, with the actions at the bottom. The green button uploads. *Screenshot:* Desk Cloud on a phone: the space, the search, the open place, the types and the files as rows, with the upload button. # Plans and space > RPG Desk plans: Free and plans 1, 2 and 3, the space and largest file of each one, and what happens when the plan changes or ends. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/planos/ Every RPG Desk account has a plan. The plan sets the **space** for your files (maps, images, music, chat attachments, plugins and pictures) and the **largest file** you can upload. Everything else is the same on every plan: rooms, sheets, scene, dice, voice and video, chat, plugins and friends. | | Free | Plan 1 | Plan 2 | Plan 3 | | ------------ | ------ | ------ | ------ | ------ | | Space | 100 MB | 5 GB | 25 GB | 100 GB | | Largest file | 25 MB | 100 MB | 100 MB | 100 MB | The server can have a lower ceiling for the largest file, and its administrators can change the plans’ names, values and prices. The **Plan** page always shows what holds on your server. ## See your plan In **Settings**, **Plan**, or by clicking the space used in the **Storage** block of [Desk Cloud](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/arquivos/): - your plan and until when it holds (or “No end date”); - the space used and the total, and the largest file; - all the plans side by side, with yours highlighted. *Screenshot:* The Plan page in Settings: the account's plan, the space used, the largest file and the table of the four plans, with the account's one highlighted. ## Change your plan For now, the server’s administrators change plans: talk to them. A plan can have an end date (“Valid until 01/23/2027”) or not. The new plan holds right away, without signing out and in again. ## What counts toward the space Files: maps, images, music, chat attachments, plugin packages and pictures (the profile one and the room ones). Sheets, scenes, the library and messages do not count. A picture the game master puts on a player counts toward the game master’s space, since they upload it. What is in the Desk Cloud trash counts too, until it is gone for good (30 days later, or sooner, with **Delete forever**). The thumbnails RPG Desk makes of images do not count. ## When the plan changes or ends - **When the end date comes,** the account goes back to Free. - **Above the plan’s space,** you cannot upload new files until you free space or change plans. - **The largest file** holds for new uploads. Larger files you already have stay. > **Nothing is deleted** > > Your files stay there, and maps keep showing in rooms. You can still open, download, rename, move, link to a room and move them to the trash. Deleting forever what you no longer use frees space right away. Your plan is yours alone: others cannot see which one it is, not in rooms and not on your profile. # Your preferences > Settings: profile, account and plan; language, chat, dice, notifications, audio and video; and troubleshooting, with search. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/configuracoes/ Click **Settings**, at the bottom of the bar on the left (on a phone, under **More**). The sections are in three groups: **Account**, **Preferences** and **Support**. Plugins are not here: they belong to each room and live in **Room settings → Plugins** (see [Room plugins and tables](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/plugins/)). *Screenshot:* Settings on the General section: on the left, your card, the search and the sections in three groups; on the right, the language, the start page, rooms for adults and distances, one per row. - **Search settings**, at the top of the bar: type what you are looking for (“sound”, “dice”, “language”) and click the result. The section opens and the row is highlighted for a moment. - **Where it is saved:** each section says at the top. **Saved to your account** (Profile, Account and security, and Plan) applies everywhere. **Saved on this computer** (the preferences) stays in this browser, or on this computer, in the app: on a new computer, they start at their defaults. - **Preferences save right away**, with a “Preference saved” notice. At the end of each preferences section, **Restore the defaults for…** resets only that section (RPG Desk asks first). *Screenshot:* The settings search with the word sound: the results show each sound and where it lives, such as Notifications › Sounds. ## Profile Your picture and what others see on your profile, with the **How others see you** preview beside it. When you change a text, the **Discard** / **Save profile** bar shows up. See [Profile, friends and conversations](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/perfil-e-amigos/). *Screenshot:* The Profile section: the avatar with Choose image, the About, Likes to play and Usually plays fields and, beside them, the preview of how others see the profile. ## Account and security The account name, since when it exists, **Change password** (asks for the current password and the new one twice), **Privacy** and, in the **Danger zone**, **Cancel the account…**. - **Get messages from people who aren’t your friends:** on, anyone can send you a direct message (the GM of a table, someone in the room you are in). Off, only your friends and the people you wrote to can. It applies right away, on any computer. See [Chatting with people who aren’t your friends](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/perfil-e-amigos/#chatting-with-people-who-arent-your-friends). *Screenshot:* The Account and security section: the account name, member since, the password with Change password and the danger zone with Cancel the account. > **Cancel the account** > > Deletes your account, the rooms you created, your messages, your files and your friends. There is no going back: RPG Desk asks for your password first, right on the row. ## Plan Your plan and until when it is valid, the space used, the largest file and every plan side by side. See [Plans and space](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/planos/). *Screenshot:* The Plan section: the account's plan, the space used, the largest file and the table of the four plans. ## General - **App:** the **Language** and **When signing in, open** (**Home** or **Rooms**). - **Explore:** **Rooms for adults (18+)**: **Hide** (the default) or **Show with a warning**. - **Virtual table:** **Distances** on the ruler and token movement: the scene’s unit, meters, feet or both (“6 m (20 ft)”). It only changes what you see. ## Chat *Screenshot:* The Chat section: the live preview with two sample lines, the text size, the line spacing and the message times. - **Live preview:** at the top, two sample lines change right away with what you pick below. - **Reading:** **Text size**, **Line spacing** and **Show message times**. - **Message formatting:** how **other people’s** text markup looks to you: headings with `#`, separators with `---`, the emoji from `:)` and `:sorriso:`, and the drop cap with `{L}`. - **In the room:** **Post a chat notice when the players’ bars change**. - **Friends & chat panel:** **Show the Friends & chat panel**. Turned off, the panel disappears from the corner of every screen, along with the chat windows (see [Profile, friends and conversations](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/perfil-e-amigos/)). Messages from friends still arrive and are kept; notices follow **Notifications**. ## Dice *Screenshot:* The Dice section: the look with the d20 preview, Use my colors and the dice and number colors; the display options; and the special effects with Test. - **Your dice’s look:** **Use my colors**, the dice color and the number color (the swatches or another color), with the d20 preview. Others see your dice in these colors. - **Display:** **Show 3D dice on rolls**, **Show special dice effects** and the **No-lighting mode**, for when the 3D dice are slow or glitchy. - **Special effects:** the effects that go with your rolls, and **Test** to see each one. See [Dice](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/dados/#customize-your-dice). Where the dice numbers come from is a room rule, picked by the game master: see [Game rules](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/regras-de-jogo/#the-dice). ## Notifications *Screenshot:* The Notifications section: the overall volume, the sounds with Listen and a switch each, and the direct message notices. - If system notifications are off for RPG Desk, a notice at the top asks for permission (**Allow notifications**) or explains how to allow them in the browser. - **Sounds:** the **Overall volume** and what plays a sound (direct message, @ mention, private conversation in the room, being kicked, rolls and scene sounds, such as doors). **Listen** plays the sample sound. - **Notices:** **Notify new direct messages** (**Always**, **In the background** or **Never**) and **Flash the window title** when something arrives while RPG Desk is in the background. ## Audio and video *Screenshot:* The Audio and video section: the quick test with the camera preview and the microphone bar, the devices (microphone, camera and audio output) and the options for joining the call. - **Quick test:** **Turn the preview on** shows your camera, and **Test the microphone** moves the bar when you speak. - **Devices:** the **Microphone**, the **Camera** and the **Audio output** (the headphones or speaker for the call’s voices; **Listen** plays a test sound). Some browsers, such as Safari, do not let you pick the output: the row does not show. - **When joining the call:** join with the microphone and with the camera on. See [Voice and video](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/voz/). ## Troubleshooting *Screenshot:* The Troubleshooting section: the error log with Download the log, the shortcut for slow 3D dice and, in Start over, restore all preferences and forget the room arrangements. - **Diagnostics:** **Download the log** of errors, to send to whoever runs the server when something goes wrong; and, if the 3D dice are slow, **Go to Dice** takes you to the no-lighting mode. - **Start over:** **Restore all preferences** on this computer (the language stays) and **Forget the room arrangements** (each room’s tabs and spaces go back to the starting layout). RPG Desk asks first. ## On a phone Settings opens as a list: your card at the top and the sections in groups, with a summary beside them (the language, the text size). Tapping opens the section; **← Settings** goes back to the list. *Screenshot:* Settings on a phone: the title, the search, the profile card and the sections in blocks, each with its summary and arrow. # On your phone > RPG Desk on a phone: installing it as an app, the bottom bar, the room tabs and the gestures (tap, hold, pinch). Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/celular/ RPG Desk works in your phone’s browser, with nothing to install. The screen adapts to your finger: the navigation moves to the bottom, the room shows one thing at a time, in tabs, and menus come up from the bottom. On a tablet, the room is the same as on a computer, with the spaces side by side, and touch works as described in [Gestures](#gestures). ## Installing it as an app RPG Desk can sit on your home screen, with its own icon, and open full screen, like an app: - **iPhone (Safari):** the **Share** button → **Add to Home Screen**; - **Android (Chrome):** the **⋮** menu → **Install app** (or **Add to Home screen**). > **Note** > > RPG Desk needs an internet connection, installed or not. ## Outside the room The bar on the left becomes a bar at the bottom, with **Home**, **Rooms**, **Friends**, **Desk Cloud** and **More** (where **Settings** and **Sign out** are). **Friends** opens the friends panel full screen; inside a room, it opens from the friends button at the top (see [Profile, friends and conversations](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/perfil-e-amigos/#on-a-phone)). Your open rooms show up in a strip right above the bar: - **tap** a room to go back to it; - **hold** it for **Leave room**. *Screenshot:* Home on a phone: the last room highlighted, with its cover on top, the Create room and Explore buttons, the strip with the open room and the bottom bar with Home, Rooms, Friends, Files and More. ## In the room At the top: - **‹**, which goes back to Home without leaving the room. It stays open, in the strip; - the room name; - the microphone, which opens **Voice and video**; - **☰**, the room menu: invite friends, the settings and leave. At the bottom, five tabs: - **Chat:** the room chat and the private and group conversations, as chips at the top. The **+** starts a conversation. A new message, while you are on another tab, shows up as a number on the tab. - **Scene:** the open scenes. With none open, the list of scenes, to tap. - **Sheets:** your main character opens by itself the first time. The **+** opens other sheets. - **People:** the participants in the room. - **More:** the library, the room tables, music, sound effects, voice and video, the room settings and **Leave room**. *Screenshot:* The room on a phone, on the Chat tab: the messages, the text box with the Send button and, at the bottom, the Chat, Scene, Sheets, People and More tabs. *Screenshot:* The More tab on a phone: Library, Combat tracker, Macros, Music, Sound effects, Voice and video, Room settings and Leave room. In the chat, the **Send** button sits next to the box. In the row below it: - the paper clip, to send a file; - the macros; - the die, which opens the dice row: one tap rolls; - **Aa**, which opens the formatting and **Speak as**. Opening a sheet or a scene from the library (or from a link) takes you to the right tab. *Screenshot:* The Sheets tab on a phone, with Aria's sheet open. *Screenshot:* The Scene tab on a phone: the crypt map up close, with the tokens, and the toolbar in one row at the top. ## Gestures | On a computer | On a phone and a tablet | | -------------------------------------------- | ------------------------------------------- | | Double-click a sheet or scene in the library | Tap | | Right-click (menus) | Hold your finger | | Mouse wheel (zoom in the scene) | Pinch: two fingers moving apart or together | | Drag the map | Drag with one finger, or with two | - **Holding your token** opens its menu: **Token properties**, turning. - **Holding the empty map** (or someone else’s token) [pings](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/cena/#pinging). - **The zoom percentage**, in the scene’s toolbar, fits the whole map. - **Menus come up from the bottom.** Pick an option, or tap outside to close. - **The ⋯ buttons**, on the participant card and the room card, open the menu too. *Screenshot:* Aria's token menu, opened by holding a finger on it: Token properties, the turns and Conditions, coming up from the bottom. ## What stays on the computer - Opening tabs and spaces in their own windows, arranging the screen and maximizing a space. - The GM’s heavy tools (walls, fog, aligning the map): they work on a phone, in a row that scrolls sideways, but they are more comfortable on a computer or a tablet. # Server administration > The area for whoever runs an RPG Desk server: the overview, the accounts, the plans, the rooms, the server's configuration and the log of what was done. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/administracao/ Whoever runs an RPG Desk server has one more area, **Administration**: the shield in the bar on the left (on a phone, it is under **More**). Only the server’s administrators see it. Its sections are on the left (on a phone, in a strip at the top): **Overview**, **Users**, **Plans**, **Rooms**, **Server** and **Log**. The area opens on the Overview. *Screenshot:* The Administration Overview: the numbers of accounts, accounts per plan, space used, rooms and uploads, and the list of sections on the left. ## Who is an administrator - **The ones in the server configuration:** the accounts in the server’s `RPGDESK_ADMINS` variable (in `apps/server/.env`), by account name or e-mail, separated by commas. The screen does not change these: to remove one, edit the variable and restart the server. - **The ones promoted on screen:** an administrator picks **Make admin** on someone else’s account. Any administrator can take the role away with **Remove admin**. > **Caution** > > Add the name to the variable after creating the account. While the name is free, whoever signs up with it becomes an administrator. ## Overview The server’s numbers right now: the accounts (all of them, the new ones this week, the online ones, the suspended ones and the administrators), the accounts on each plan, the space used and the files, the rooms (and how many have people right now) and the memory of uploads in progress. Tapping an accounts or plan number opens **Users** already filtered by it; the rooms number opens **Rooms**. ## Users *Screenshot:* The Users section: the search, the filters, the list of accounts with the Admin and Suspended badges and, on the right, the details of a suspended account, with the reason and the action buttons. - **Search by name or e-mail**, the filters **All**, **Online**, **Administrators** and **Suspended**, the plan (**All plans**, **Paid plans** or one plan) and the order: **Newest**, **Name** or **Last seen**. - Each row shows the account (with the **Admin** and **Suspended** badges), the e-mail, when it was created, when it was last seen, how many rooms it created, the space it uses in Desk Cloud and the plan (with the end date, if it has one). - Clicking an account opens its **details**, on the right: - the last sign-in, the open sessions, the terms of use, the plan, the space and the friends; - for the plan, the end date (or when it ended), who gave it and the internal note; - the rooms it created; - its administration history. - The actions are in the details and in the row’s **…** (also on right-click, or by holding a finger on it). ## What you can do with an account | Action | What happens | | ----------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Suspend** | Asks for a reason, which can be left empty. The person is signed out right away, on every device, and sees a notice with the reason. While the account is suspended, the sign-in screen says it is suspended, and why. | | **Reactivate** | The person can sign in again. | | **Temporary password** | RPG Desk suggests a password, which you can change, and copies it. The person is signed out on every device and signs in with the new password, which you give them. Later, they change it in **Settings**, **Account and security**. | | **Change plan** | Pick the plan, whether it has an end date (it holds until the end of the chosen day) and an internal note, which only administrators see. If the account uses more space than the new plan gives, RPG Desk warns you first: it cannot upload new files, but nothing is deleted. The person sees the new plan right away. See [Plans and space](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/planos/). | | **Make admin** and **Remove admin** | Give or take away access to Administration. For the person, the shield shows up or goes away right away. | | **Delete account** | Deletes the account, the rooms it created, its files and messages, for good. To confirm, type the account name. | Some actions are turned off, with the reason in the tooltip: - none of them work on your own account (not even changing your own plan: ask another administrator); - an administrator from the server configuration does not change on screen, except for the plan; - a promoted administrator can only lose the role or change plans. To suspend, change the password or delete, remove the administrator role first; - a suspended account cannot become an administrator. *Screenshot:* The Change plan dialog: the list of plans with the space and largest file of each, the end date choice and the internal note. ## Plans The four plans side by side: the name, the price per month, the space, the largest file, how many accounts are on each one and how many go over its space. See [Plans and space](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/planos/). *Screenshot:* The Plans section: the four plans in columns, with the price, the space, the largest file, the accounts and the accounts over the space, and the Edit buttons. - **Edit** changes the plan’s name (in Portuguese and in English; empty means the usual name), the price and what it gives. RPG Desk warns you before saving: - when a value is out of the allowed range; - when a plan would have less than the plan below it; - when the largest file is above the server’s ceiling; - how many accounts would go over the new space. They can’t upload new files until they free space, and nothing is deleted. - What you save holds right away for every account on the plan, without signing out and in again. - **Back to the default** returns the plan to what comes with RPG Desk. - The price is kept for payments: for now, people don’t see it. *Screenshot:* The Edit plan dialog: the names in Portuguese and in English, the price per month, the space and the largest file, each with its unit. > **Who edits the plans** > > Only the administrators in the server’s configuration (`RPGDESK_ADMINS`). The ones promoted on screen see the plans, without editing. ## Rooms All the rooms on the server: the name (with the **Private** and **Password** badges), the owner, who has joined, who is in it now, its files and their space, when it was created and the last message. The search finds rooms by their name or the owner’s. *Screenshot:* The Rooms section: the search, the order and the list of rooms with the owner, the members, who is in now, the files, the creation date and the last message. - Clicking the owner opens their account’s details. - In the row’s **…** (also on right-click, or by holding a finger on it): **See the owner** and **Delete room**. To delete, type the room’s name. The room, its sheets, scene, chat and files go away for good, and whoever is in it leaves right away. ## Server The server’s configuration, read only: the version, since when it has been running, the ceiling for one file, the upload memory, the administrators in the configuration, the allowed addresses and whether random.org is on. Next to each value is the variable that changes it, in `apps/server/.env`, with the server restarted. Passwords and keys never show up here. *Screenshot:* The Server section: the version, the limits and the access, each value with the .env variable that changes it. ## Log The **Log** section lists every administrator action, newest first: when, who did it, the action, on which account (or plan) and the details: - the suspension reason; - an account’s plan change (“Free → Plan 1 · until 01/23/2027 · note”); - a plan edit (“Space 5 GB → 10 GB · Price no price → R$ 5.00”); - the deleted room. Clicking the account name opens its details. A deleted account stays in the log, with just its name. *Screenshot:* The Log section: a table with when, who, the action, the account and the details of each administrator action. # The room screen > How a room is laid out: the tabs, which fit into spaces, the room menu with its Tabs, dragging tabs and spaces, and arranging the screen with Ctrl+E. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/ Inside a room, each tool is a **tab**: the Library, the Chat, the Participants, each scene and each sheet. Tabs fit into **spaces**, side by side or stacked, and you group the tabs as you like. When you join, you see the **Library** on the left, an **empty space** and the **Chat** in the middle and the **Participants** on the right. The empty space takes the first scene or sheet you open. *Screenshot:* The room: the Library on the left, an empty space with the hint to open a scene or sheet, the Chat and the Participants, each space with its tab strip at the top. On the left, in the RPG Desk bar, the room's icon. ## The room’s icon An open room gets an icon, with its initials, in the RPG Desk bar on the left. Hovering over it shows the name. - **Click** goes back to the room, if another screen (Home, for example) is open. - **Right-click** (on touch, press and hold) opens the [room menu](#the-room-menu), with the **Tabs**, which open and close the tabs and, at the end, arrange the screen (see [Tabs and spaces](#tabs-and-spaces)). The conference is in the **Participants** tab, under the **Voice and video** button (see [Voice and video](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/voz/)). ## Tabs and spaces At the top of each space sits the **tab strip**: the tabs, each with its icon and name, a **+** after the last one, an empty part and, on the right, **Collapse** and **More space actions** (⋯). A space has no name and no bar: it is the tabs it holds. - **Tabs:** click a tab to see it, and its **×** to close it. The room Chat does not close. Closing the last tab leaves the space empty, in place, until you open something else or drag a tab into it. The empty space’s **×** takes it off the room. - **Where a new tab opens:** in a space that already exists. A scene goes with the other scenes, a sheet with the sheets, a conversation with the chat and a table with the tables. The first of each kind goes to an empty space, if there is one; otherwise, to the last space you clicked (not counting the Library and the Participants, where you open things from). - **Drag a tab**, at any time: - onto another space’s strip, it goes there, where you drop it (a line shows the spot); - onto the middle of another space, it goes to the end of it; - near the edge of a space, that space splits, and the tab gets a new space on that side; - onto the edges of the room (the dashed strips that show while you drag), it gets a new column or strip. The last tab to leave a space takes the space with it. Holding **Ctrl** or **Alt** when you drop leaves a copy (of the chat, the library, a scene…). **Esc** gives up. - **Drag the whole space:** grab the empty part of the strip, after the **+**. The space goes with all its tabs (the name of the tab in view follows the mouse, with “+2” if two more come along): - dropped on another space’s strip, or in its middle, the tabs join that space’s tabs; - near the edge of another space, that space splits, and the dragged one goes on that side; - on the edges of the room, it gets a new column or strip. On touch, holding the empty part opens the space’s menu. - **Right-click a tab:** **Open in new window**, **Move to** (with another space’s tabs, even in a window of its own, or into a new space beside it), **Duplicate** and **Close**. On touch, press and hold the tab. - **The strip’s +:** opens the Chat, the Library, the Participants, the Music, the Sound effects, the Files, the room settings or a table right there. What is in another space moves to this one. - **The Tabs menu**, in the room menu, lists the **Chat**, the **Participants**, the **Library**, the **Music**, the **Sound effects**, the **Files** and the room tables, such as the **Combat tracker** and the **Macros**. A **✓** marks what is in view. Clicking an item without a ✓ opens the tab (or brings it into view); clicking one with a ✓ closes it. At the end of the menu sit **Arrange the screen**, **Restore the starting layout** and **New window**, which opens a window that works like the room (see [Windows and several rooms](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/janelas/)). - **Collapse:** the **Collapse** button leaves only the space’s tab strip, and the others take the room. Alone in a column, or side by side with others, the strip stands up, with the tabs lying down. Clicking a tab, or **Expand**, opens it again. - **More space actions (⋯):** **Open in new window**, **Maximize**, **Move to** (left, center or right) and **Close the space**. Right-clicking the empty part of the strip opens the same menu. - **Maximize:** in **More space actions** (⋯), or with a double-click on a tab, leaves the space alone on the screen. **Esc**, **Restore** in the same menu or another double-click goes back to normal. - **Open in new window:** takes the space, with all its tabs, to a window of its own, which works like the room and takes other tabs. To take only one tab, right-click it. See [Windows and several rooms](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/janelas/). - **Width:** drag the divider between two spaces. *Screenshot:* The room menu, opened from its icon, with the Tabs submenu: Chat (always checked), Participants, Library, Music, Sound effects, Files and the tables Combat tracker and Macros, with a ✓ on what is in view, and at the end Arrange the screen, Restore the starting layout and New window. Each room’s arrangement (where each space sits, the open tabs and the widths) is saved on this computer. To bring one room back to the initial arrangement, use **Tabs → Restore the starting layout**; for every room: **Settings → Troubleshooting → Forget the room arrangements**. In a narrow window (on a phone, for example), the spaces merge into one, with all the tabs side by side. ## Arranging the screen (Ctrl+E) You drag tabs and spaces at any time. To put a tab in an exact spot, like the music in a strip at the bottom or the tracker in a column on the right, **Ctrl+E** (Cmd+E on a Mac) turns on **layout editing**, from anywhere in the room, even with the cursor in the chat. **Tabs → Arrange the screen** turns it on too. *Screenshot:* The room in layout editing: at the top, the strip with Restore the starting layout and Done arranging; the spaces with a dashed outline and + buttons on their edges; the Participants space being dragged by the empty part of its tab strip, with the left half of the Chat space highlighted. - **Put a tab in a spot:** the **+** on each space’s edges and on the room’s edges opens the **Put here** menu, with the tabs: the chat, the participants, the library, the music, the sound effects, the files and the room tables. A tab already in the room moves; the rest opens there, in a new space. - **Move:** as outside the mode, drag the tab, or the whole space by the empty part of its strip. In the mode, the edges of the room open up, which makes dropping on them easier. - **Duplicate:** drop while holding **Ctrl** or **Alt** to leave a copy of the tab (for a whole space, of the tab in view), or right-click the tab → **Duplicate**. It works for the chat, the participants, the library, the scene (the same map at another zoom), the music and the sound effects. - **Remove:** **More space actions → Close the space**. The Chat’s space does not close, but it can go anywhere; if the middle of the room ends up empty, drag another space (or a tab) there. - **Size:** drag the dividers between spaces. - **Restore the starting layout**, on the editing strip or in the Tabs menu, goes back to the initial arrangement, with the empty space. To leave: **Ctrl+E** again, **Esc** or **Done arranging**. Everything is saved right away. In a narrow window the spaces stay together and can’t be arranged: widen the window. ## The room menu Right-click the room’s icon, in the bar on the left (on touch, press and hold). The room’s name shows at the top of the menu. *Screenshot:* The room menu, opened from its icon in the bar on the left: the room's name, Invite friends, Room settings, Tabs and, last, Leave room. - **Invite friends…**: pick friends and send the invite (see [Profile, friends and conversations](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/perfil-e-amigos/)). - **Talk to the GM**: opens a direct chat with the room owner, even if you aren’t friends (see [Chatting with people who aren’t your friends](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/perfil-e-amigos/#chatting-with-people-who-arent-your-friends)). The owner doesn’t have this item. - **Room settings**: game masters see every page (see [Room settings](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/configurar-mesa/)). For everyone else, the item is called **Room plugins** and shows only the plugins. - **Tabs**: opens and closes the tabs and, at the end, arranges the screen and opens a new window (see [Tabs and spaces](#tabs-and-spaces)). - **Leave room** asks first. To come back, join again from **Home** or **Rooms**. Moderating the chat happens in the chat itself (see [Roles and moderation](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/papeis/#moderated-chat)). ## The tools [Chat](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/chat/): Messages, formatting, narrator and NPCs, private conversations. [Dice and rolls](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/dados/): How to roll, the 3D dice and your effects. [Library](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/biblioteca/): The room's sheets, folders and scenes. [Character sheets](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/fichas/): Creating, filling in and rolling from the sheet. [Participants](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/participantes/): The cards, the health bars and your picture in the room. [Scene and map](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/cena/): Tokens, ruler, ping, drawings and the fog. [Voice and video](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/voz/): The room's conference. [Music and sound effects](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/musica/): The session's soundtrack. [Windows and several rooms](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/janelas/): Spaces in windows of their own and more than one open room. [Macros](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/macros/): Your own commands, with one word. # Chat > Talking in the room: messages, formatting, narrator and NPCs, files, mentions and private conversations. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/chat/ The chat is the heart of the room: conversation, narration, rolls and notices (who joined, who became a player) all show up in it, in order. The start and the end of each game session show as dividers (see the [session clock](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/relogio-da-sessao/)). *Screenshot:* The room chat: the welcome message, the notices of who joined, the narration in italics, an action, a quoted line, a Perception roll and an NPC's line. ## Writing - **Enter** sends; **Shift + Enter** breaks the line. - **Up arrow** brings back your previous messages, one per press (to repeat a roll, for example). **Down arrow** goes forward again. - While someone is typing, the chat says so: “Luana is typing…”. - A line that starts with `/` is a command: `/r 1d20+5` rolls the dice, `/me` narrates an action. See [Chat commands](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/referencia/comandos/). ## The message box *Screenshot:* The message box with its tools: send file, macros, bold, italic, underline, color, the Speak as selector on NPC with the name Warden, and the quick dice row. In the first row of buttons: - **Send file** (the paper clip): sends an image or another file to the chat; - **Manage macros** (the lightning bolt): see [Macros](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/macros/); - **Bold**, **Italic**, **Underline** and **Text color**: apply the style to the selected text; - **Speak as**: **Myself**, **Narrator** or **NPC…**, with the **NPC name** next to it. The message goes out with the narrator’s or the NPC’s name instead of yours. In the second row, the **Quick dice**: one click rolls 1d4, 1d6, 1d8, 1d10, 1d12, 1d20 or 1d100. ## Formatting The chat understands simple markup: | You type | It shows | | --------------------------- | ----------------------------------------- | | `_italic_` | *italic* | | `**bold**` | **bold** | | `*action*` | the character’s action, highlighted | | `"speech"` | the speech, in curly quotes | | `--dash speech--` | — the speech with dashes — | | `((out of character))` | the out-of-character comment, in brackets | | `{O}nce upon a time` | the drop cap, large | | `:sorriso:`, `:dado:`, `:)` | 😄, 🎲, 🙂 | *Screenshot:* A message with a drop cap, italic, bold, an action, speech, dash speech, out of character, a colored word and a fire emoji. Headings (`# Heading`), separators (`---`), colors and links work too. The complete list, with the color codes and the emoji, is in [Chat formatting](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/referencia/formatacao/). If you dislike some markup, you can turn it off for yourself in **Settings → Chat → Message formatting**. ## Files and images To send a file: the paper clip, drag the file onto the chat (**Drop to send** shows up) or paste an image with **Ctrl + V**. The file stays attached above the message box, with the thumbnail (for images) and the name; the **×** removes it. It only goes when you press **Enter** (or the send button), and whatever you write along goes as its caption, in the same message. While it uploads, **sending…** shows. Images show up in the conversation with the file name underneath; other files, with the name, the size and the **Download** button. The file is kept in your [Desk Cloud](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/arquivos/), linked to the room. You can also drag an image into the chat: someone’s photo from the **Participants** list, a token or an image from another site. It is attached as an image, not as an address in the text box. Click an image in the chat to see it large, over the room. There, **Open in another tab** shows just the image in a browser tab; **Close** or **Esc** takes you back to the chat. ## Mentions Type `@` and someone’s name (or nickname) to call them. They hear a sound and, if the room is in the background, the number on the room’s button turns yellow. ## Private and group conversations - **Private:** right-click someone’s name, in **Participants**, and choose **Talk privately**. The conversation opens in a tab of its own, next to the room chat, “Marina (private)”, on both sides. - **Group:** **Start a group chat**, in the same menu, or **+ → Private group chat…**, and pick the people. In the conversation’s tab, **Invite more** calls other people and **Leave chat** leaves it. *Screenshot:* A private conversation between the game master and Luana, in a tab next to the room chat's tab. What is said in a private conversation does not show up in the room chat. ## Your name in the room `/nick Raven` changes your name in this room only; `/nick`, with nothing, goes back to your account name. The same is in your name’s menu, in **Participants → Change my nickname**. > **History** > > When you join, you get the room’s latest messages. The game master chooses, in **Room settings → Permissions**, whether each person sees the whole history or only what happened since they first joined. # Dice and rolls > How to roll dice in RPG Desk, how to read the result, the 3D dice and customizing your dice. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/dados/ Every roll is made by the RPG Desk server and shows up in everyone’s chat, with the 3D dice rolling on everyone’s screen. ## Three ways to roll - **In the chat:** `/r` and the roll, as in `/r 1d20+5`. Whatever comes after `:` is the roll’s name: `/r 1d20+5: Sword attack`. - **With the quick dice:** the row of dice below the message box rolls 1d4, 1d6, 1d8, 1d10, 1d12, 1d20 or 1d100 with one click. - **On the sheet:** the roll buttons on the character’s sheet (see [Character sheets](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/fichas/)). ## What you can roll | You type | What happens | | -------------- | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | `/r 1d20` | one 20-sided die | | `/r 2d6+3` | two d6, added up, plus 3 | | `/r 1d8+1d6+2` | different dice in the same roll | | `/r 4d10 > 7` | counts **successes**: each die with 7 or more adds one, each 1 takes one away | | `/r ord 4d6` | shows the results in order | | `/r 4dF` | Fudge (Fate) dice: each is worth −1, 0 or +1 | | `/r 3d6: Luck` | the roll with a name | The complete rules (limits, errors, how successes count) are in [Rolls](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/referencia/rolagens/). ## Reading the result *Screenshot:* Three rolls in the chat: 4d10 > 7 with the count of successes, ord 4d6 with the dice in order and 4dF with each die's sign. Each roll shows who rolled, the expression, the total and, in braces, what each die rolled. In success rolls, the total is “2 successes”, “1 success”, “Failure” or “Critical failure”. ## The 3D dice *Screenshot:* The 3D dice of the latest rolls tumbling over the room, across the library and the chat. The dice of whoever rolled cross everyone’s screen and vanish by themselves. They also roll while another RPG Desk screen is open (Home, Explore, Settings). With the browser tab in the background, the roll still happens right away: the roll alert plays and, if you come back while the dice are still on everyone else’s screen, they show up where they are by then. Dice that already stopped and vanished don’t roll again; the result is in the chat. If the dice get in the way or slow the computer down: - turn them off in **Settings → Dice → Show 3D dice on rolls**; - or, on computers with graphics issues, turn on **Settings → Dice → No-lighting mode**. The roll sound is turned off in **Settings → Notifications → Dice rolls**. ## Customize your dice In **Settings → Dice** (it saves with each change): - **Use my colors**, with the **Dice color** and the **Number color** (the swatches or another color), and the d20 preview. Other people see your dice in these colors. - **Special effects:** pick a die, a result (the highest or the 1) and an effect: **Fire**, **Ice**, **Acid**, **Stone**, **Tavern**, **Rich Akeime**, **Nature** or **Divine light** (the clouds part and a beam of light comes down from the sky onto the die, with a choir). **Test** throws a test die with the effect. By default, a d20 that lands on 20 catches fire. *Screenshot:* Settings → Dice: the d20 preview with the dice and number colors, the display options and the effect rule d20, Highest (20), Fire, with the Test and Add effect buttons. The effects go with your rolls: the whole room sees them. If you do not want to see anyone’s effects, turn off **Show special dice effects**, in **Settings → Dice**. > **Numbers from random.org** > > If the RPG Desk server has a random.org key, the GM chooses where the room’s dice numbers come from, in **Room settings → Game rules → Dice numbers**. With **True random (random.org)**, the default, the numbers of every roll in the room come from atmospheric noise, and a small **R** shows next to everyone’s **Chat** tab. If random.org does not answer, the roll comes from the program and the **R** is struck through until the next roll that comes from it. Hover over the **R** to see which one it is. # Library > The room's library: sheets, folders and scenes, how to open and organize them, and what each person sees. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/biblioteca/ The **Library** keeps what belongs to the room: the characters’ **sheets**, the **scenes** (the maps) and the **folders** that organize everything. *Screenshot:* The library with the Characters folder (with the sheets Bram and Aria) and the scene Crypt hall. The crossed-out eye marks what is hidden from players. ## Open - **Double-click** an item to open the sheet or the scene in a tab: next to the other sheets (or scenes), in an empty space, or in the last space you clicked (see [Tabs and spaces](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/#tabs-and-spaces)). On a phone or tablet, **one tap** opens it, and **holding your finger** on the item opens its menu (the right-click one). - Right-click → **Open in new window** opens it straight in a window of its own (see [Windows and several rooms](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/janelas/)). - **Search the library** filters the items by name. The marks next to the name: - **main**: your main character’s sheet (see [Character sheets](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/fichas/#the-main-character)); - **yours**: another sheet that is yours; - the crossed-out eye (only the game master sees it): the item is hidden from players. ## Create The **New item** button, next to the search: *Screenshot:* The game master's New item menu: New folder, New scene, New sheet… and Install plugin…. - **New sheet…**: players and game masters. See [Character sheets](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/fichas/). - **New folder** and **New scene**: game masters only. - **Install plugin…**: game masters only. See [Room plugins and tables](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/plugins/). Right-clicking a folder offers the same options, to create the item inside it. ## An item’s menu Right-click the item: *Screenshot:* The menu of the sheet Aria: open, open in new window, export and import XML, use as main character, change the owner, make visible, rename, move and delete. - **Open** and **Open in new window**; - **Export as XML…**: saves the sheet’s data to a file, for example to take the sheet to another room; - **Import from XML…**: replaces the sheet’s data with an exported file’s (what was in the sheet is replaced); - **Use as my main character**; - **Rename** and **Delete**: the sheet’s owner and the game masters; - game masters only: **Change the sheet owner…**, **Make visible to everyone** or **Make invisible**, and **Move to…** (or drag the item onto a folder). > **What each person sees** > > Folders, sheets and scenes start **hidden** from anyone who is not a game master: the game master releases them whenever they want, with **Make visible to everyone**. A hidden folder hides everything inside it, but releasing the folder does not release what is inside. A sheet’s owner always sees their own sheet. Only the sheet’s owner and the game masters change a sheet; the others, if they can see it, can only read it. See [Players’ sheets](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/fichas-dos-jogadores/) for the game master’s side. # Character sheets > Creating a sheet, filling it in, rolling from it and choosing your main character. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/fichas/ Each room uses the sheets of the plugins its game master installed: a D\&D sheet, one for a homebrew system, the RPG Desk Basic Sheet… What you write on the sheet is kept in the room and shows up right away for whoever has it open. *Screenshot:* Aria's sheet open in a tab of the room: portrait, name, origin, class, health and energy, defense, speed and the attribute list with the roll buttons. ## Create your sheet 1. In the [library](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/biblioteca/), click **New item → New sheet…**. 2. Give it a name (for example, the character’s). Without a name, it is called “New character”. 3. Click the system, in the list. Each system is a sheet from one of the room’s plugins. The sheet shows up in the library and is **yours**: only you and the game masters change what is on it. Often the game master creates the sheets, already with the right owner: see [Players’ sheets](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/fichas-dos-jogadores/). > **Note** > > If the list says **No sheet plugin installed in this room**, ask the game master to install the plugin for your system. ## Fill in and roll - Double-click the sheet, in the library, to open it in a tab. - Fields save as you type. Whoever has the same sheet open sees the change right away. - The sheet’s roll buttons roll in the chat, for everyone, with the 3D dice. - If the sheet is not yours, you can only read it: the fields are locked. - Some sheets have parts only the game master sees. Those parts never reach your browser. ## The main character Your main character is the sheet that represents you in the room. Its name shows up on your card, in **Participants**, and the sheet can fill in your card’s bars (health and energy, for example). - To choose it: right-click the sheet, in the library → **Use as my main character**. - The sheet the game master creates or hands to you becomes your main one, if you do not have one yet. ## When the sheet does not open - **“The page did not answer. Does it load rpgdesk.js?”**: the sheet has a defect. **Reload** tries again; if it keeps happening, tell the game master. - **“No plugin in this room edits sheets of type…”**: the sheet’s plugin was removed from the room. The data is still kept and comes back when the game master installs the plugin again. - A badge with a number, in the sheet’s corner, shows the **Page errors**. They are for whoever made the sheet: **Copy errors** and send them to the game master. See [Test and develop](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/fichas/desenvolvimento/#page-errors). # Participants > The list of who is in the room: the cards, the health bars, the lines, your picture in the room and each person's menu. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/participantes/ The **Participants** tab shows who is in the room, split into **Game masters**, **Players** and **Spectators**. At the top are **Invite friends**, **Talk to the GM** (a direct chat with the room owner, for anyone who isn’t them), **Group chat…** and **Voice and video**. *Screenshot:* The participants list: the game master Marina; the players Bram (Davi's) and Aria (Luana's), with the health and energy bars and the Poisoned condition; and the spectator Teo. ## The card Each person has a card with: - the **picture** (the one for this room, if the person chose one; otherwise, their profile’s); - the **main character’s name**, with the person’s name below it (without a character, their name or nickname); - the green online dot, and “typing…” while they write; - the **bars** (health, energy…) and free-text **lines** (a condition, for example). How many show up, their names and their colors are the room’s [game rules](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/regras-de-jogo/). Double-click the card to open the person’s profile. ## Bars and lines In most rooms, the main character’s sheet fills in the bars: change the health on the sheet, and the bar changes. You can also change them directly: - **Double-click one of your bars** to open the editor, with the **Current value** and the **Maximum**. Type a number, or `+5` to add, `-3` to take away, `=10` to set the number. **Enter** saves, **Esc** cancels. - **Double-click one of your lines** to write in it, right there. The cursor goes to the end of the text, without erasing what was there. **Enter** or clicking elsewhere saves, **Esc** cancels. Empty lines show faded, with their name, only to those who can write in them. - **Card bars and lines…**, in your name’s menu, edits everything at once. *Screenshot:* The editor for Aria's Health bar, with -3 typed in the Current value and the maximum 22, and the Cancel and OK buttons. You change your own bars and lines; the game master changes everyone’s. When a bar changes, the chat says so, for example “Davi’s Health: -4” (turn it off in **Settings → Chat**). > **Note** > > The game master can hide a bar’s numbers: others see the bar, but only its owner and the game masters see “18/22”. When it changes, the notice for whoever cannot see the numbers is just “+?” or “-?”. ## A person’s menu Right-click the name (or the card’s **…** button): - **View profile**; - **View photo**: the card’s photo at a large size (only when the person has a photo); - **Open …’s sheet**, the main character’s; - **Chat**: a direct chat with the person, at the bottom, even if they aren’t your friend (see [Chatting with people who aren’t your friends](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/perfil-e-amigos/#chatting-with-people-who-arent-your-friends)); - **Talk privately** and **Start a group chat**, the room’s conversations (see [Chat](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/chat/#private-and-group-conversations)); - on your own name: **Card bars and lines…**, **Change my photo at this table…**, **Change my nickname** and **Stop using a main character**. The game master has more options: roles, silencing, kicking, creating and handing out sheets. See [Roles and moderation](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/papeis/). *Screenshot:* The game master's menu on Davi: view profile, view photo, card bars, change the photo, talk privately, group chat, make game master, make player, silence, hide the chat, kick and ban. ## Your picture in this room In each room, you can use a different picture, your character’s: **Change my photo at this table…**, in your name’s menu. The image comes from your computer and is cropped to a square. **Go back to my profile photo** removes this room’s picture. The game master can also change anyone’s picture in their room. # Scene and map > Using the scene as a player: moving your token, measuring distances, pinging, drawing, opening doors and seeing through the fog. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/cena/ The **scene** is the adventure’s map, with the grid and the **tokens** (the pieces for characters and monsters). It opens from the [library](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/biblioteca/), with a double-click, when the game master makes it visible. Building the scene is the game master’s job: see [Building the scene](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/mapa/). *Screenshot:* The scene as the player sees it: the revealed hall, with the tokens of Aria, Bram and a skeleton, and the rest of the map covered by fog. ## Moving the view - **Dragging the empty map** moves the view. The middle or right mouse button also drags, with any tool. - **The mouse wheel** zooms in and out. So do the **−** and **+** buttons. - **0** (or clicking the zoom percentage) fits the whole map. - The **Pan the view** tool (**H**) only moves the view, even over tokens. ## Moving your token With **Select and move** (**V**), drag your token. It snaps to the grid; holding **Alt**, it stays where you drop it. The **arrow keys** move the selected token one cell. While you drag, the path and how far it went show up. If you pause on a cell for a moment, that leg ends there and the distance keeps adding up on the next one. Only you see the path; the others see the token arrive. *Screenshot:* Aria being dragged: the path's cells marked in blue, the line with the arrow and the distance 20 ft above the token. > **Note** > > You only move the tokens the game master released to you. With token vision on, the token stops when it touches a wall. Right-click your token to **Turn 45°** to one side or the other (or **Shift + wheel** with it selected, 15° at a time). Your token’s **Conditions** are there too, such as Blinded, Poisoned or Prone: each one shows as an icon on its edge, for everyone (see [Conditions](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/mapa/#conditions)). **Invisible…** is in the same list: your token stays on the map, but only you, the game master and the people you check see it (see [Invisible token](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/mapa/#invisible-token)). The game master is told when you change it. Double-clicking your token opens its properties. There you can give it an **aura**: a circle, a cone or another shape painted around it, which moves and turns with the token (see [Auras](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/mapa/#auras)). ## Measuring The **Ruler** (**R**): drag from one point to another. The distance shows in the scene’s unit (1.5 m per cell by default; the game master can switch to 5 ft). Diagonals count as one cell. *Screenshot:* The ruler measuring 25 ft from Aria to the skeleton. Prefer to see meters, feet or both? **Settings → General → Distances**. It only changes what you see. ## Pinging To draw everyone’s attention to a spot: **Alt + click** on the map, or hold the button still for a moment. Everyone sees ripples in your account’s color, with your name. If the spot is outside someone’s view, an arrow on the edge points to it. *Screenshot:* The game master's ping over the skeleton: purple ripples around the spot and the name Marina. Spectators cannot ping. ## Drawing **Draw** (**D**) opens the options: **Freehand**, **Rectangle**, **Ellipse** or **Text**, the color, the thickness and **Fill**. Everyone sees the drawings. - **Erase drawings** (**E**): click one of your drawings to erase it. - **Clear…** → **Clear my drawings** erases all of yours. - **Ctrl + Z** undoes and **Ctrl + Y** redoes what you did in this scene. Spectators cannot draw. ## Fog, vision and doors - **With fog of war**, you only see what the game master revealed; the rest is black. - **With token vision**, you see what your tokens see: the light of torches, the reach of their sight, and walls block the view. What the token has already seen stays dimmed. - **Doors:** click the door’s icon to open or close it. A locked door rattles and says “The door is locked.”. *Screenshot:* The scene in the dark, as the player sees it: the light of Aria's torch lights a circle of the hall, the rest Aria has already seen stays dimmed, and the door shows on the east wall. # Voice and video > The room's conference: joining, turning the microphone and camera on, and choosing the devices. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/voz/ Each room has its own voice and video conference. It opens from the **Voice and video** button (the microphone), at the top of the **Participants** tab, above the list; the same button closes it. During a call, the button takes the brand color. *Screenshot:* The Voice and video panel, outside the call, with the explanation and the Join the call button. ## Join and leave 1. Click **Voice and video** and then **Join the call**. 2. The first time, the browser asks to use the microphone: allow it. 3. To leave, **Leave the call** (the orange phone), in the same panel. *Screenshot:* The panel with two people in the call, Marina and Luana, with the microphone, camera and leave buttons. - The microphone button **mutes** and **turns on** your microphone; the camera button turns the video on and off. - Each person in the call has a tile, with their video (if the camera is on) or their initial. - With the camera on, your photo in the **Participants** list becomes your live webcam video; when you turn it off, the photo comes back. People in the call see the others’ video there too; people outside the call (and the list opened in its own window) keep seeing the photo. - You can close the panel: the conversation goes on. The button stays highlighted while you are in the call. - Switching rooms ends your participation in the previous room’s call. ## Devices In **Settings → Audio and video**: - the **Quick test**: **Turn the preview on** shows your camera, and **Test the microphone** shows the volume of your voice, to check the right microphone is selected; - the **Microphone**, the **Camera** and the **Audio output** (the headphones or speaker for the voices) RPG Desk uses. The default is the system’s; Safari does not let you pick the output; - **Join with the microphone on** and **Join with the camera on**. > **How it works** > > Sound goes straight between the computers; the RPG Desk server only introduces them to each other. This works well up to about six people. With many people in the room, RPG Desk warns that the call may get heavy. Trouble with the sound? See [Common problems](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/ajuda/problemas/#voice-and-video). # Music and sound effects > The room's soundtrack: what players hear and control, and how the game master builds the playlist and the sound effects board. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/musica/ The room has its music, the same for everyone and at the same point, and a **sound effects** board (a creaking door, thunder) that the game master plays on the spot. Both open from the room menu (right-click the room’s icon, in the bar on the left) → **Tabs** (**Music** or **Sound effects**), as tabs, in an empty space or in the last space you clicked. ## Music, for players *Screenshot:* The music as the player sees it: the track that is playing, its position, the note that the game master controls the music, the personal volume and the playlist. - **Now playing** shows the track and its position. The playlist shows up below. - **My volume** changes only what you hear. - The game master controls the music. - Closing the module does not stop the music: it keeps playing while you are in the room. ## Music, for the game master *Screenshot:* The music as the game master sees it: the playing track, the previous, pause, next, stop and repeat buttons, the personal volume, the table volume and the playlist with three tracks. - **Build the playlist:** **Upload audio files…** (the upload icon, next to **Playlist**), **Add by link…** (the chain icon) or drag audio files onto the module. - **Controls:** previous, play or pause, next, stop and repeat (**Repeat playlist**, **Repeat this track** or **No repeat**). Dragging the position skips the music for everyone. - **Table volume** applies to everyone; **My volume**, only to you. - Click a track to play it now. The **×** next to it removes the track from the playlist. ## Sound effects *Screenshot:* The sound effects board with three effects: creaking door, thunder and howl, and the effects volume. - The game master adds effects with the **+** or by dragging audio files onto the board. - One click on an effect plays it for the whole room. Right-clicking it offers **Remove**. - **Effects volume** is your volume for the effects. > **Did the browser hold the sound?** > > Some browsers only play sound after you click the page. If **The browser held the table’s sound. Click to listen.** shows up, click the notice. The overall volume of everything (music, effects and notices) is in **Settings → Notifications → Overall volume**. # Windows and several rooms > Opening windows that work like the room, taking spaces and tabs to them (another monitor) and being in more than one room at the same time. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/janelas/ ## Windows of their own A window of its own works like the room: it has spaces, each with its tab strip and its **+**, and inside it you drag, join and split tabs and spaces. Use it to take the map and the tracker to another monitor, for example. It works for every tab: the chat, the library, the participants, the music, the sound effects, scenes, sheets, room tables and private conversations. - **Tabs → New window**, in the room menu (right-click the room’s icon), opens an empty window, with a space waiting for tabs. - **More space actions** (⋯), at the end of the tab strip, → **Open in new window** takes the whole space, with all its tabs. Right-clicking the empty part of the strip opens the same menu. - Right-click a tab → **Open in new window** takes only that tab. - In the library, right-click a sheet or scene → **Open in new window** opens it straight in a window, without going through the room. *Screenshot:* Aria's sheet in a window of its own, with the room's initials and name at the top, the tab strip with the sheet and the +, and the Back to the table button. The window opens with the space’s size and position (the new window, larger). At the top, it shows the room, the window’s name and the **Back to the table** button. The name is the tab in view in the last space you clicked, as in a browser; the empty window is called **New window**. ### Putting tabs in the window - **The tab strip’s +**, in the window, opens a tab right there, or brings the one that is in the room (“moves here”). - **In the room, right-click a tab → Move to** also lists the windows’ spaces, with the hint **In another window**. In a window, the hint says **In this window**, **In the room** or **In another window**. - **What you open from the library or the participants that are in the window** opens in that window. - **What you open from the room** goes with the tabs of its kind, even in a window: with the scenes in a window, the new scene goes there, and the window comes to the front. - **Dragging a tab from one window to another** isn’t possible yet: use the **+** or **Move to**. ### Inside the window - **Everything works as in the room** (see [Tabs and spaces](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/#tabs-and-spaces)): - drag tabs and spaces between the window’s spaces; - near the edge of a space, or at the window’s edges, it splits; - **Ctrl+E** arranges the window. - **The ⋯ of a space in the window** has **Move to the room**, which takes it back to the left, the center or the right of the room. - **In a narrow window**, with more than one space, all the tabs stay together, as in the room. Widen the window to arrange it. ### Closing the window - **Closing the window** (or **Back to the table**) brings everything back to the room: - a space that left the room goes back to the same place, with the arrangement it has now; - a tab that left on its own goes back to the space it came from; - what was in a new window goes next to the chat; - empty spaces don’t come back. - **Moving the last tab of a window somewhere else** closes the window. Closing the last tab (its ×) leaves the space empty, and the window stays open. - **The room chat doesn’t leave the main window:** a window gets a copy of it, which goes away when the window closes. - **Leaving the room** closes its windows. - **Music, voice and the 3D dice** stay in the main window only. > **Did the browser block the window?** > > If **The browser blocked the new window** shows up, allow pop-up windows for RPG Desk’s address in the browser settings and try again. ## Several open rooms You can be in up to **8 rooms** at the same time. Each open room gets a button in the bar on the left, with the initials of its name; hover over it to see the whole name. *Screenshot:* The bar on the left with two room buttons: NC, with the number 1 for a new message, and TV, the room on the screen. - **Entering another room** (from Explore or Home) sends the previous one to the background, without leaving it. - **Switch rooms:** click its button. - **The number on the button** counts the messages and rolls that arrived while the room was in the background. It turns yellow when someone mentions you or sends you a private message. - **Leave a room:** right-click its button → **Leave room**. *Screenshot:* A room button's menu, with the Leave room option. In a room in the background, you are still present for the others and you get the messages. Music, voice, sheets and scenes stay only in the room on the screen: switching rooms ends the previous room’s voice call. Reloading the page reopens the rooms that were open in this tab. # Macros > Your own commands, with one word: a macro keeps chat lines and rolls and runs them all with /name. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/macros/ A macro keeps one or more lines, just as you would type them in the chat, and runs them all with a single command. The `/attack` macro, for example, can narrate the blow and roll the hit: ```text /me swings the axe /r 1d20+5: Attack ``` ## Create a macro 1. Type `/macros` in the chat, or click **Manage macros** (the lightning bolt, in the message box). 2. Pick the tab: **Room (for everyone)**, **Mine in this room** or **Mine (global)**. 3. Click **New macro**, give it a name and write the lines, one per command. *Screenshot:* The macro manager on the Room tab, with the attack and damage macros and the lines of each one. The three tabs: | Tab | Who uses it | Where it is kept | | ----------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------- | ---------------- | | **Room (for everyone)** | everyone in the room; only game masters create and change them | in the room | | **Mine in this room** | only you, only in this room | in this browser | | **Mine (global)** | only you, in every room | in this browser | - The **name** has no spaces and no `/`, and has up to 30 characters. - Each macro has up to 20 lines: text, `/r`, `/me` or any other command. ## Use Type `/` and the macro’s name in the chat: `/attack`. Uppercase and accents do not matter. If two macros have the same name, the room’s wins, then yours for this room, then your global one. A macro can call another one, up to three levels deep, and one run goes through at most 100 lines. ## The Macros table The **Macros** table comes with every room: open it from the room menu (right-click the room’s icon, in the bar on the left) → **Tabs** → **Macros**. It opens as a tab, next to the other tables, with one button per macro: one click runs the macro in the chat. **Manage…** opens the manager. *Screenshot:* The Macros table below the library, with the attack and damage buttons and the Manage button. > **Note** > > **Mine** macros are kept in the browser: on another computer, you do not have them. # For game masters > What the game master controls in RPG Desk: the room, roles, the players' sheets, the scene, combat, plugins and integrations. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/ Whoever runs the game looks after the room: decides who comes in and with what role, what players see in the library, which sheets and tables the room uses, builds the maps and runs combat. The game masters of a room are: the **owner** (who created it), the **assistant game masters** they chose and whoever was given the game master role. No room yet? Start with [Create your room](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/primeira-mesa/). [Room settings](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/configurar-mesa/): Name, cover, status, password, history, assistant game masters and bans. [Roles and moderation](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/papeis/): Game masters, players and spectators; silencing, moderating, kicking and banning. [Players' sheets](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/fichas-dos-jogadores/): Creating and handing out sheets, the main character and what stays hidden. [Game rules](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/regras-de-jogo/): The bars and lines on the players' cards, and the dice numbers. [Building the scene](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/mapa/): The map, the grid, the tokens and the layers. [Fog, walls and vision](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/nevoa-e-visao/): Revealing the map bit by bit, walls, doors, light and what each token sees. [Combat tracker](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/combate/): Initiative, turns, rounds and effects. [Session clock](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/relogio-da-sessao/): The start, the breaks and the end of the game session, and the Sessions tab with the record and the notes. # Room settings > The room's settings: profile, cover and status, game rules, plugins, password, chat history, assistant game masters, bans and deleting the room. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/configurar-mesa/ The settings open from the **room menu** (right-click the room’s icon, in the bar on the left) → **Room settings**. They open in a panel next to the Chats, with five pages in the bar on the left: **Profile**, **Game rules**, **Plugins**, **Permissions** and **System**. They look like the [program’s Settings](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/configuracoes/): each page has cards, and the **Applies to the whole room** badge is a reminder that the change is for everyone. On **Profile** and **Game rules**, changing something brings up the **You have changes that are not saved yet** bar at the bottom, with **Undo** and **Save**. Everything else (the password, the chat history, the lists of people and the plugins) takes effect right away. Only the owner and the assistant game masters change the settings. Changes to the name, status, welcome message, traits and password show up in the chat for everyone. Players and spectators also open **Room settings**, but they only see the **Plugins** page: the room’s plugins and tables, and the sheet development mode. ## Profile *Screenshot:* The Profile page of the room settings: the bar on the left with the five pages and the Presentation card, with name, system, details, status message and welcome message. - **Room name**, **System** and **Details**. - **Status message**: a short line that shows on the room’s card, in Explore (“Session 12 this Saturday”). - **Welcome message**: shows up in the chat for whoever joins. It accepts [chat formatting](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/referencia/formatacao/). - **Traits**: up to 12, for the search in Explore. - **Cover image (address)** and **Room badge (address)**: the address of an image (`https://…`). The cover shows at the top of the card; the badge, in the circle over it. Without an image, RPG Desk draws a cover and shows the room’s initials. - In the **In Explore** card, three on/off switches: - **Looking for players**: the **Looking for players** badge on the card; - **Content for adults (18+)**: the **18+** badge. The room disappears from Explore for whoever does not want to see adult rooms; - **Hide from Explore**: the room can only be found through its link. ## Game rules The bars and lines on the players’ cards, and where the dice numbers come from (random.org or the program). See [Game rules](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/regras-de-jogo/). ## Plugins The room’s sheet and table plugins: install, update and remove them, and enable the room tables (the ones that come with RPG Desk, like the Combat tracker and Macros, and the plugins’ ones). See [Room plugins and tables](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/plugins/). ## Permissions *Screenshot:* The Permissions page: the Entry card, with the password to enter, the New password field and the Set password button, and the Chat card, with who reads the history. - **Password to enter**: type the **New password** and click **Set password**; **Remove password** opens the room again. The owner and the assistant game masters enter without the password. - **Who reads the chat history**: **Everything** (everyone sees the whole history) or **Since joining** (each person only sees what happened since they first joined). ## System *Screenshot:* The System page: the Assistant game masters and Banned cards, each with the Account name field and the Add button, and the Danger zone with Delete room. - **Assistant game masters**: type the **Account name** and click **Add**. They join as game masters, skip the password and can change the settings. Only the owner changes this list. - **Banned**: who cannot enter the room. Banning someone from their menu also puts the account here; **Remove** takes it off the list. - **Delete room**, in the **Danger zone**: deletes the room, its chat and its rolls forever. Only the owner can, and RPG Desk asks you to type the room’s name first. > **Danger** > > Deleting the room also deletes the files linked to it (maps, music, chat images). There is no going back. # Roles and moderation > Game masters, players and spectators; silencing, hiding the chat, moderating, kicking and banning. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/papeis/ Each person in the room has a role: | Role | What they can do | | --------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Game master** | everything: the whole library, the scenes, everyone’s sheets, the others’ roles | | **Player** | their own sheet, their own tokens, drawing and pinging on the scene | | **Spectator** | watching and chatting; no sheet, no drawing, no pinging | - The room’s **owner** and the **assistant game masters** (see [Room settings](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/configurar-mesa/#system)) always join as game masters. - Whoever joins for the first time is a **spectator**. Next time, they come back with the role they had. ## Change someone’s role Right-click the person’s name, in **Participants**, and choose **Make game master**, **Make player** or **Make spectator**. The chat announces the change to everyone. *Screenshot:* The game master's menu on Davi, with Make game master, Make player, Silence, Hide the chat from them, Kick and Ban. ## Moderation In the same menu: - **Silence** (and **Allow to talk**): the person cannot talk in the chat. - **Hide the chat from them** (and **Show the chat again**): the person only sees their own messages and the system notices. - **Kick**: removes the person from the room. They can come back. - **Ban**: removes the person and does not let them come back. The account goes to the **Banned** list, in **Room settings → System**, from which **Remove** takes it off. The person’s card shows when they are silenced, not seeing the chat or have voice. ### Moderated chat **Moderate chat**, the shield button on the chat toolbar (game masters only): only game masters and people with **voice** can talk. To give someone voice, their menu gains **May talk in moderated chat**. While the chat is moderated, everyone sees the “Chat is moderated” strip; for game masters it has **End**, which goes back to normal (the same as clicking the button again). > **Note** > > Nobody changes the room owner’s role, or kicks or bans them. An assistant game master stays a game master while they are on the list of assistant game masters. # Players' sheets > Creating sheets for players and handing them out, choosing the main character, changing the owner and deciding what each person sees. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/fichas-dos-jogadores/ Each sheet has an **owner**: they and the game masters change the sheet; others, if they can see it, can only read it. Players can create their own sheets, but often the game master creates them and hands them out, already with the right owner. ## Create a sheet for a player 1. Right-click the player, in **Participants**. 2. Choose **Create a sheet for…** (or **Create another sheet for…**, if they already have one). 3. Give the character’s name and click the system. The **Sheet owner** is already the player. *Screenshot:* The New sheet for Davi dialog: the name Bram, the owner Davi (Player) and the system Character, from the RPG Desk Basic Sheet. The new sheet becomes the player’s **main character**, if they do not have one yet: its name shows on their card, and the sheet fills in the card’s bars. From the library (**New item → New sheet…**), the game master also chooses the **Sheet owner**: themselves, someone in the room, or **Nobody: only the GMs edit it** (good for NPCs). ## Hand out, change the owner and choose the main character In the player’s menu, in **Participants**: - **Give … a sheet from the library…**: pick a sheet that is not theirs yet; it becomes theirs. - **Choose …’s main character…**: when they have more than one sheet. **No main character** removes the main one. In the library, right-click a sheet → **Change the sheet owner…** gives the sheet to someone in the room or to nobody. ## What players see Sheets start **hidden** from anyone who is not a game master. Owners always see their own; other players only see a sheet you release with **Make visible to everyone** (right-click it, in the library). A hidden sheet also does not show the character’s name on the card for others. > **Tip** > > Want the group to see each other’s sheets? Put the sheets in a folder and release the folder **and** the sheets: releasing the folder does not release what is inside. ## Parts only the game master sees Some sheets have a part for game masters only, like the **GM** tab of the RPG Desk Basic Sheet. What you write there never even reaches the players’ browsers: it is not just hidden on the screen. *Screenshot:* Aria's sheet as the game master sees it, on the GM tab, with the GM notes: Aria is the lost heir of Valdren. Whoever makes the sheet decides which parts belong to the game master. See [Private parts](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/fichas/partes-privadas/). # Game rules > The bars (health, energy…) and text lines on the players' cards: how many show up, their names, their colors and who sees the numbers. And where the dice numbers come from. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/regras-de-jogo/ The players’ cards, in **Participants**, show **bars** (health, mana, energy…) and free-text **lines** (a condition, a position). The **game rules** say how many show up and how. They also say where the dice numbers come from. They are in **Room settings → Game rules**. *Screenshot:* The Game rules page: two bars, Health (red) and Energy (blue), with the numbers for everyone, as value and maximum, and one line called Condition. ## The dice Shows up when the RPG Desk server has a random.org key. **Dice numbers** applies to every roll in the room, by anyone: in the chat, in macros and in sheets. - **True random (random.org)** (the default): the numbers come from atmospheric noise, and a small **R** shows next to everyone’s **Chat** tab. If random.org does not answer, the roll comes from the program and the **R** is struck through until the next roll that comes from it. - **Generated by the program**: the server draws them, with no **R**. ## The bars - **How many bars**: from 0 to 4. - For each bar: - the **color** (the little square). **Use the plugin’s color** goes back to the color the sheet sends; - the **name** (“Health”); - **who sees the numbers**: **Numbers: everyone**, or **Numbers: GMs and owner**. The others see the bar, but not “18/22”; - **how to show the numbers**: **As value / max** (“18/22”) or **As percentage** (“82%”). ## The lines - **How many lines**: from 0 to 4. - Each line’s **name** shows up when someone edits the card. In the unsaved changes bar at the bottom, click **Save**. The chat tells everyone the rules changed, and the cards change right away. *Screenshot:* The cards with each character's two bars and the Poisoned line on Bram's card. ## Who fills in the bars - **The sheet:** most sheet plugins fill in their owner’s card bars by themselves, when the sheet is the owner’s main character. In the RPG Desk Basic Sheet, bar 1 is health and bar 2 is energy. - **The player:** double-click one of their bars or lines, or **Card bars and lines…** in their name’s menu. See [Participants](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/participantes/#bars-and-lines). - **The game master:** everyone’s bars and lines, the same way. *Screenshot:* The Davi's card dialog, with the values and maximums of Health and Energy and the card line filled in with Poisoned. > **The chat notices** > > When a bar changes, everyone sees it in the chat, for example “Davi’s Health: -4”. For whoever cannot see that bar’s numbers, the notice is just “-?”. If you do not want these notices, turn them off in **Settings → Chat → Post a chat notice when the players’ bars change**. A room with no saved rules shows 4 bars and 4 lines, with the numbers for everyone, and uses random.org when the server has the key. # Building the scene > Creating the scene, setting the map image, lining up the grid, configuring the scale, placing the tokens and giving them auras. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/mapa/ A **scene** is a map with a grid, where the **tokens** live. Each scene is a library item: the room can have as many as you want (the tavern, the road, the crypt) and you open the one in play. ## Create the scene 1. In the library, **New item → New scene**, and give it a name. 2. Double-click the scene to open it in a tab, next to the other scenes (the first one goes to the empty space). Double-click its tab (or **More space actions** (⋯) → **Maximize**) to have it fill the screen. 3. Click **Map** and choose the image (see below). 4. When it is ready, right-click the scene in the library and choose **Make visible to everyone**. Until then, only game masters see it. A new scene opens with just the grid, and the hint “Choose the map image, add tokens or drop images here.”: *Screenshot:* A new scene, as the game master sees it: the toolbar with Token and Map, the empty grid and the hint to choose the map image. *Screenshot:* The finished scene, as the game master sees it: the crypt map with the grid, the tokens of Aria, Bram and two skeletons (one of them hidden, faded), and the translucent fog over what players do not see yet. ## The map image The **Map** button opens **Map image**, with three tabs: - **From computer**: uploads an image file (it goes to your [Desk Cloud](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/arquivos/)); - **Room images**: an image you already sent to this room; - **Web address**: the address (`https://…`) of an image on the internet. Maps already in your Desk Cloud become the background too: drag one from the **Files** tab onto the scene, or use **Use as the open scene background** (see [Use in a room](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/comecando/arquivos/#use-in-a-room)). *Screenshot:* The Map image dialog, with the From computer, Room images and Web address tabs. If the image has a grid drawn on it, RPG Desk finds it and fits the scene’s grid over it, and tells you how many cells the map ended up with. Without a drawn grid, the image is fitted to whole cells. *Screenshot:* The notice: Found the image grid, the map is 24 × 18 cells. ## Line up the grid If the scene’s grid did not land exactly on the drawing’s lines, use **Align the grid with the map image** (the grid icon, in the toolbar): - **Width** and **Height**, with the plus and minus buttons, stretch the image; the arrows move it. **Rotation** turns the image in steps of 0.05°. With **Shift**, the step is 10 times bigger. The keyboard arrows also move the image. - **Mark and synchronize:** drag over a few cells drawn on the map (four, spread out, work best) and click **Synchronize**. - **Detect the image grid** looks for the grid again. *Screenshot:* The Align tool on: the bar with width, height, the arrows, rotation and the Synchronize and Detect the image grid buttons, the grid over the map and the notice that the grid found left the map with 24 × 18 cells. Tokens, fog and drawings stay put when you align the image. Everything can be undone with **Ctrl + Z**. ## Scene settings The last button on the toolbar, **Scene settings**: *Screenshot:* The Scene settings dialog: replace or remove the image, import a UVTT map, columns, rows, cell size, what each cell is worth and the unit, the grid's color and opacity, show the grid, fog of war and the token vision section. - **Map:** **Replace image…**, **Remove image** and **Import UVTT map…** (see [Fog, walls and vision](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/nevoa-e-visao/#import-a-uvtt-map)). - **Columns**, **Rows** and **Cell (px)**: the size of the board and of a cell on the screen. - **Each cell is** and **Unit**: the scale of the ruler and of movement. The default is 1.5 m; for 5 feet, type `5` and `ft`. - **Grid color**, **Grid opacity** and **Show the grid**. - **Fog of war** and **Token vision**: see [Fog, walls and vision](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/nevoa-e-visao/). ## Tokens Three ways to place a token: - **Drag images** from your computer onto the scene: each image becomes a token, named after the file. - **Drag someone’s picture**, from the **Participants** list, onto the scene: the token already carries their name. - The **Token** button places a token at the center of the view. Double-click the token to open the **Token properties**: *Screenshot:* The properties of the token Aria: name, image, color, size, HP and max HP, show the name and the vision section, with the ranges, the light the token emits, the angles and the facing. - **Name**, **Choose image…** (or **No image**: the token shows its initials in the chosen **Color**) and the **Size** (from half a cell to 6 × 6); - **HP** and **Max HP**: the little green bar above the token; - **Show the name on the map**; - **Vision**: what the token sees and the light it gives (see [Fog, walls and vision](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/nevoa-e-visao/#each-tokens-vision)); - **Aura**: an area painted around the token (see [Auras](#auras)); - **Layer**: **Map (below everything)**, for furniture and objects, **Tokens**, or **GM only**; - **Conditions**: Blinded, Dead, Poisoned and the others (see [Conditions](#conditions)); - **Hidden from players**: the token does not even reach the players (you see it faded); - **Who can move it**: check the players who control the token. Players move their tokens; the game master moves all of them. Right-clicking the token offers the rest: *Screenshot:* The Skeleton token's menu: properties, turn 45 degrees to each side, Conditions, hide from players, duplicate, bring to front, send to back and delete. | Shortcut | What it does | | ----------------------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | | **Ctrl + C** and **Ctrl + V** | copy the selected token and paste it where the mouse is (even in another scene) | | **Ctrl + D** | duplicates the token next to it | | **Delete** | deletes the selected token | | **Arrows** | move the selected token one cell | | **Ctrl + Z** and **Ctrl + Y** | undo and redo what you did in the scene (up to 50 steps) | The copy takes everything the token has: its properties, facing, conditions, Invisible, who controls it, vision, light and aura. It only leaves out what the token has already explored of the map. All the shortcuts are in [Keyboard shortcuts](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/referencia/atalhos/). > **Bring everyone to a spot** > > **Shift + Alt + click** (or holding the button with **Shift**) pings and takes everyone’s view to it. Good for “look here!”. You can erase everyone’s drawings: **Draw → Clear…** has **Clear players’ drawings** and **Clear all drawings**. ## Conditions Conditions show the character’s state on the map: each one is an icon on the token’s edge. Turn them on and off under **Conditions**, in the token’s right-click menu, or in its properties. *Screenshot:* The Skeleton token's Conditions submenu, with an icon on each item: Blinded, Dead, Poisoned, Stunned, Paralyzed, Prone, Frightened, Unconscious, Bleeding and, after a line, Invisible. Prone and Bleeding are checked, and both icons show on the skeleton's edge. - A token can have several conditions at once. Up to 4 icons show on the edge; past that, 3 show plus a **+N** with the rest. Each icon’s tooltip gives the condition’s name. - You turn them on and off on any token. Players only on the tokens they control, and you can remove a condition a player set. - Everyone at the table sees the conditions of the tokens they can see. - For now, conditions are only visual: they don’t change movement, vision or fog. The exception is **Invisible**, which has its own rule (below). ## Invisible token **Invisible…**, under **Conditions** in the token’s right-click menu, keeps the token in play but only in sight of the people you choose. You can also turn it on and off in the token’s properties; choosing who still sees it is done in the menu. It is for invisibility spells and powers; to take the token off the map, use **Hide from players**. - Check **Make the token invisible** and, under **Who still sees it**, the participants who still see it. You and whoever controls the token always see it. - Anyone not checked sees nothing of the token: image, name and bar. The server doesn’t even send them the token. - Whoever sees the token sees it faded, with a crossed-out eye on its edge, before the other conditions. While the token is invisible, the menu item reads **Invisible (on)…**; unchecking the box removes the condition. - Players can make their own token invisible and choose who sees it too. You are told about every change, as with a locked door, and you can make any token visible again. - Whoever joins the room later starts without seeing the token. Whoever was allowed stays allowed after leaving and coming back. - **Hide from players** wins: hidden, no one but the game masters sees the token, not even those allowed. Fog and token vision still apply to those allowed. - In **View as**, you also see the invisible tokens the way the chosen player does. - In combat: a token that came in through **Add to combat** leaves the tracker for whoever doesn’t see it, and its turn does not go to the chat (see [Link to the scene token](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/combate/#link-to-the-scene-token)). ## Auras An aura is an area painted around the token: a paladin’s aura, a spell’s reach, a breath weapon’s cone. It moves and turns with the token, and whoever sees the token sees the aura. *Screenshot:* Aria with a blue circular aura that also covers Bram, and the skeleton with a red cone pointing at both of them. In the **Token properties**, check **Has an aura**: *Screenshot:* The Aura section of the token properties: Has an aura checked, Circle shape, 3 m reach, the blue color, opacity at 40% and the In squares option. - **Shape**: **Circle**, **Cone**, **Half circle**, **Rectangle** or **Image**; - **Reach**: how far the aura goes, counted from the token’s edge, in the scene’s unit. A 3 m aura covers everything within 3 m of the token, and on a bigger token it grows with it. For the cone and the half circle, it is the length ahead; - **Opening**: the cone’s angle (90° by default; the D\&D 5e cone is about 53°); - **Width** and **Height**: the size of the rectangle and of the image, centered on the token; - **Choose image…**: from your computer, one of the room’s images or a web address; - **Aura color** and **Opacity**; - **In squares**: instead of the smooth shape, it paints the grid cells that fall inside it. The cone and the half circle point where the token faces: turn the token from the right-click menu (**Turn 45°**) or with **Shift + wheel**. With the token turned 45°, the cone starts at its corner, like the books’ diagonal cone. Players can also give an aura to the token they control. Copying, pasting or duplicating the token takes the aura along, and **Ctrl + Z** undoes. A hidden token’s aura shows only to you, faded, like the token. # Fog, walls and vision > Revealing the map bit by bit with fog of war, drawing walls and doors, and making each token see only what light and walls allow. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/nevoa-e-visao/ RPG Desk has two ways to hide the map from players: - **Fog of war:** everything starts covered, and you reveal areas with the mouse. - **Token vision:** each player sees what their tokens see, with light, sight range and walls. What they have already seen stays dimmed. Both are in **Scene settings** (the last button on the scene’s toolbar). ## Fog of war 1. In **Scene settings**, check **Fog of war** and click **Save**. For players, the map turns black; for you, translucent. 2. Click **Fog tools** (the eye, in the toolbar) and choose **Reveal fog area** (or press **F**). 3. Drag a rectangle over the area to reveal. *Screenshot:* The fog tools menu, with Reveal fog area and Cover area with fog. - **Cover area with fog** hides it again. - When two rectangles overlap, the last one wins. - **Remove fog**, in the toolbar, turns the fog off and erases the revealed areas. ## Token vision In **Scene settings**, in the **Token vision** section: - **Token vision**: turns vision on. Players see what their tokens see, and walls block sight; - **Ambient light**: **Bright / Sunlight**, **Dim / Twilight** or **None / Darkness**; - **Sharing**: **Individual vision** (each player sees through their own tokens) or **Shared vision** (every player sees what the group sees); - **Reset exploration**: erases what the tokens have already seen. *Screenshot:* The scene in the dark, as the player sees it: the light of Aria's torch lights a circle, the rest Aria has already seen stays dimmed and the door shows on the wall. With vision on, the fog tools gain two modes: **Partially visible area** (shown dimmed) and **Area to explore** (back to the default: hidden until a token sees it). **Reveal fog area** leaves the area always visible; **Cover area with fog**, always hidden. *Screenshot:* The fog tools menu with vision on: reveal, cover, partially visible area and area to explore. ### Each token’s vision In the **Token properties**, the **Vision** section (only the game master changes it): - **Has vision**: for NPCs. A player’s token always gives them vision; - **Range in bright light**, **in dim light** and **Darkvision**, in the scene’s unit. The defaults are 102 in bright light, 1.5 in dim light and 0 darkvision (0 means not seeing in that light). A dwarf, for example, has 60 ft of darkvision; - **Darkvision**: within that range the token sees with no light at all, the map and the tokens. What only darkvision shows appears colorless and darker, so the player knows they see in the dark and not because there is light there. It respects walls and the vision angle; - **Bright light it emits** and **Dim light it emits**: a torch, for example, 20 ft and 40 ft; - **Vision angle** and **Light angle**: less than 360° makes a cone, in the token’s direction; - **Facing**: **Rotate the image** or **Show an arrow**; - **Light only**: players do not see the token, only its light (a lamp on the wall, a campfire). ### See as the players With vision on, the toolbar gains **View the scene as**: **Game master** (everything), **All players** (what the group sees) or one player, exactly as they see it. *Screenshot:* The game master viewing the scene as All players: only what their tokens see shows up; the rest stays dark. ## Walls The **Walls** tool (**W**) draws the walls that block sight and movement. *Screenshot:* The Walls tool: the options bar with Draw, Select, Remove with rectangle, the wall types and shapes, and the hall's walls in red with a yellow door on the east wall. On the options bar: - **Draw**, **Select** or **Remove with rectangle** (whatever is inside the rectangle is cut out of the walls); - the type: **Wall**, **Window** (you can see through it, but not pass), **Ethereal** (you can pass, but not see), **Terrain** (you see the object, but not what is behind it), **Door** and **Secret door**; - the shape: **Segments**, **Rectangle**, **Ellipse** or **Freehand**; - **Snap to grid**: the points land on the corners and middles of the cells; - **Delete all walls**. With **Segments**: click to place the points; a **double-click** or **Enter** finishes; clicking the first point closes the shape; **Backspace** removes the last point; **Esc** cancels. A **Door** takes two clicks: the start and the end. In **Select**, click a wall (**Shift** adds) or drag a box; drag a vertex to move it; **Delete** removes. A **double-click** opens the **Wall properties**: *Screenshot:* The wall properties: type Door, blocks movement, sight Blocks, direction Both sides, door Door and state Closed. - **Blocks movement**; - **Sight**: **Blocks**, **Limited (terrain)** or **Does not block (window)**; - **Direction**: both sides, or only for whoever is on one side (left and right count going from the first point to the second); - **Door** and **State**: **Closed**, **Open** or **Locked**. Only two-point walls can be doors. **Seamless joints:** a point drawn or dragged near another wall’s point (less than a quarter of a cell away) snaps to it, and the two walls make one continuous joint. Walls already on the map whose ends almost touch don’t let sight through the gap between them either. To join those ends for good, use **Join nearby ends** on the bar: it works on the selected walls, or on all of them. There’s no need to stack walls over the joint. ### Terrain: limited sight A wall with **limited sight** (the **Terrain** type) hides nothing on its own. The rule: - sight **passes** the first limited wall it crosses; - and **stops** at the second. So **outline the whole object** (the rock, the pillar, the pile of rubble), closing the shape on the first point. Sight enters the object through the front edge and stops at the back one: players see the object, but not what is behind it. An open line, on just one side of the rock, lets them see everything; in that case, the wall properties warn you. Two terrain lines one behind the other also block. With a one-sided **Direction**, the limited wall only counts for whoever looks from that side; whoever looks from the other side sees through it. The player’s view and the game master’s **View as** follow the same rule. ### Doors - Players open and close a door by clicking its icon. So does a spectator who controls a token in the scene. A locked door rattles, and you get the notice “Davi tried to open a locked door”. - You lock and unlock it by right-clicking the door. Only you see the padlock. A locked door only unlocks with the right button: a normal click does not open it, not even for you. - A **secret door** is a wall to the players: they do not see it until you open it. Door sounds are turned off in **Settings → Notifications → Scene sounds**. > **Note** > > With vision on, a player’s token stops when it touches a wall. You go through walls, except when you are viewing the scene as a player. ## Import a UVTT map Maps from editors like Dungeondraft can be exported as UVTT (`.uvtt`, `.dd2vtt` or `.df2vtt`). To import: **Scene settings → Import UVTT map…**, or drop the file onto the scene. RPG Desk brings: - the map image, already fitted to the grid; - the walls and doors (real doors, which open and close); - the lights, as “light only” tokens on the map layer. Fog and token vision are turned on. The file can have about 4/3 of your plan’s largest file, plus 2 MB (the image is embedded in it), and **Ctrl + Z** undoes the whole import. # Combat tracker > The room's initiative table: actors, initiative, turns, rounds, sides, timed effects and what players see. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/combate/ The **Combat tracker** is a room table that comes with RPG Desk: the initiative order, whose turn it is, the round and each actor’s effects. Everyone sees the tracker; only game masters change it. ## Open it The tracker comes with every room, with nothing to enable. Open it from the room menu (right-click the room’s icon, in the bar on the left) → **Tabs** → **Combat tracker**: it opens as a tab, next to the other tables, in an empty space or in the last space you clicked. Each person opens their own, and players can open it too, to follow whose turn it is. Closing the tab erases nothing: the combat stays as it was. ## Set up the combat *Screenshot:* The combat tracker in a window of its own: round 1, Aria's turn (17), the Skeleton (14, hostile), Bram (12) open with the initiative roll, the notes and the Poisoned effect for 3 rounds, and the Warden (9), visible to game masters only. - **+ Players** brings in all the players, each with their main character’s name. - **+** (**Add actor**) adds a monster or NPC. - Or, on the map, right-click a token → **Add to combat**: the token joins the tracker linked to it (see [Link to the scene token](#link-to-the-scene-token)). - Type the **initiative** in the little box to the left of each one: the list sorts itself. - Or let RPG Desk roll: open the actor (click the name), fill in the **Initiative roll** (`1d20+2`) and click **Roll**, which rolls for everyone who has a roll. Clicking the name opens the actor: **Name**, **Initiative roll**, **Notes** and the **effects**. ## Run it - **Next turn** passes the turn. The chat says “▶ Aria’s turn”, and the turn is marked in the list. After the last one, the **Round** goes up. - **+ Effect** on an actor: the effect or condition’s name (“Poisoned”) and the **Duration (rounds)**. Each round the counter goes down and, when it runs out, the chat says “Bram’s Poisoned effect has ended”. The effect’s **×** removes it earlier. - **Clear** removes all the actors and goes back to round 1. - The trash can icon removes an actor. ## Sides and visibility Each actor has two buttons on the right: - **The side:** each click switches between **Friendly** (green), **Neutral** and **Hostile** (red). - **The visibility:** **Visible to everyone**; **Visible to everyone, without notes and effects**; or **Visible to GMs only** (the actor does not even show up for players, and its initiative roll does not go to the chat). *Screenshot:* The tracker as the player sees it: Aria, the Skeleton and Bram, without the Warden, who is for game masters only. ## Link to the scene token With the tracker on, **Add to combat**, in a map token’s right-click menu, puts the token in the tracker linked to it. If the tracker already has an unlinked actor with the same name (a player who came in through **+ Players**, for example), that actor is the one linked. After that, the token menu shows **Already in combat**. Once linked, the actor follows the token’s [Invisible](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/mapa/#invisible-token) condition: - Whoever doesn’t see the invisible token doesn’t see the actor in the tracker either, and its turn does not go to the chat. - Whoever sees the token (you, whoever controls it and the people allowed) sees the actor with the crossed-out eye next to its name. - Without the condition, the actor shows up for everyone again. - **Visible to GMs only** still wins: the actor stays with the game masters, even for those who see the token. Opening the actor, the line **Linked to a token in scene…** tells which scene the token is in, and **Unlink from token** undoes the link. > **Tip** > > Take the tracker to another monitor with **More space actions** (⋯) → **Open in new window**. See [Windows and several rooms](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/janelas/). # Room plugins and tables > Installing, updating and removing the room's sheet and table plugins, and enabling room tables. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/plugins/ A **plugin** brings character sheets, **room tables** (an NPC list, a calendar…), or both. Plugins are installed **per room**: whoever plays in the room uses its plugins. Everything is in **Room settings → Plugins**: in the **room menu** (right-click the room’s icon, in the bar on the left), **Room settings**, and the **Plugins** page. Whoever is not a game master sees the item as **Room plugins**. *Screenshot:* A room's Plugins page: the Install plugin and Copy instructions for AI buttons and the RPG Desk Basic Sheet installed. ## Install In a new room, the page only has the buttons: *Screenshot:* The Plugins page of a room without plugins: the Install plugin and Copy instructions for AI buttons, and the notice that the room has no plugins yet. 1. Click **Install plugin…** (or, in the library, **New item → Install plugin…**). 2. Choose the plugin’s file: an `.html` or a `.zip`. 3. RPG Desk checks the file and shows what it brings. Click **Install**. *Screenshot:* The Install plugin dialog: RPG Desk Basic Sheet, version 1.0.0, by RPG Desk, the description and the Character sheet, with the Cancel and Install buttons. The dialog shows the name, version, author, description and the plugin’s sheets and tables. If it sends data out of the room (through [webhooks](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/integracoes/)), the dialog says so. ### When the plugin has problems RPG Desk checks every file before installing. **Errors** block the installation; **warnings** do not. Each problem says what is wrong and **how to fix** it. *Screenshot:* The Install plugin dialog with two errors (a script from outside the package and a field name with a space) and a warning (alert), each with how to fix it, and the Copy report button. **Copy report** copies the whole list: paste it in the conversation with the AI that made the sheet (or send it to whoever made the plugin) and ask for the fix. The list of every problem is in [The verifier](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/referencia/verificador/). ## Update Install the new version of the same plugin: the button becomes **Update** and says from which version to which. Sheets keep their data. If the version is lower than the installed one, the dialog warns you. ## Remove **Remove**, next to the plugin. RPG Desk first counts how many sheets use the plugin: - the sheets **are not deleted**: they stay in the library, read-only, until the plugin is installed again; - its active tables leave the room, with their data kept. ## Room tables A room table belongs to the whole room: it stays open as a tab for everyone, and only game masters change what is in it. Each plugin’s tables show up in **… tables**, below the plugin: - **Enable** opens the table for everyone, as a tab that doesn’t come into view, so it takes nobody’s space. Clicking the tab’s name shows it. - **Disable** closes it for everyone, but keeps the data: **Enable** again brings the table back as it was. - **Erase data**, on a disabled table, erases the data for good. The [Combat tracker](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/combate/) and the [Macros](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mesa/macros/#the-macros-table) come with every room and are not managed here: open them from the room menu → **Tabs**, like the other tabs. An NPC table, for example, as the game master and the players see it (the NPC marked as hidden does not even reach the players): *Screenshot:* The NPCs table as the game master sees it: three NPCs, with HP, initiative, notes, the roll button and the Hidden from players option, checked on the Lich of Valdren. *Screenshot:* The same table as the player sees it: only two NPCs, without the game master's controls. > **No plugin for your system?** > > Make your own: a sheet is a web page, and you can create one with help from an AI. See [Creating sheets](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/fichas/). **Copy instructions for AI**, on this page, copies the guide you paste in the conversation with the AI. # Integrations > Sending what happens in the room elsewhere (Discord, spreadsheets, lights) through Zapier, Make or IFTTT, with the plugins' webhooks. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/integracoes/ A sheet or table can send data out of RPG Desk: announce a roll in a Discord channel, log XP in a spreadsheet, change the color of the room’s lights. It does so through **webhooks**, and only through **Zapier**, **Make** or **IFTTT**: the plugin chooses what it sends, and you choose where it goes. The plugin must declare its webhooks. When you install it, the dialog lists them: “It can send data outside, through the webhooks you register later in Integrations”. ## Connect a webhook 1. In the service (Zapier, Make or IFTTT), create the automation with a webhook trigger and copy its address: - **Zapier:** the “Catch Hook” trigger from Webhooks by Zapier: `https://hooks.zapier.com/hooks/catch/…`; - **Make:** the scenario’s webhook module: `https://hook..make.com/…`; - **IFTTT:** Webhooks: `https://maker.ifttt.com/trigger//json/with/key/`. 2. In RPG Desk, in **Room settings → Plugins**, click **Integrations** on the plugin. 3. Paste the address into the webhook, choose **Who can trigger** it (**GMs only** or **Everyone**) and click **Save**. *Screenshot:* A plugin's Integrations screen: the rolls webhook, with the Zapier address pasted, Who can trigger set to Everyone, the Save and Remove buttons and the On status. - The address stays on the server only: players do not see it, and the plugin does not choose the destination, only the webhook’s name. - **Remove** turns the webhook off. Without an address, the plugin sends nothing. - **Latest sends** shows what was sent, by whom, and whether it worked. ## What reaches the service Each send is a `POST` with JSON like this: ```json { "plugin": "br.rpgdesk.example.integration", "webhook": "rolls", "room": { "id": "…", "name": "The Crypt of Valdren" }, "user": { "id": "…", "nick": "Luana" }, "sentAt": "2026-10-17T20:15:00.000Z", "data": { "total": 17 } } ``` The plugin’s data comes in `data`; RPG Desk adds the rest. On IFTTT without `/json` in the address, only three values go: `value1` (the webhook’s name), `value2` (the nickname of whoever triggered it) and `value3` (the data, as JSON). > **Limits** > > Up to 30 sends per minute in each room, with up to 16 KB of data each. The service has 10 seconds to answer. Want your sheet to send something? See [Webhooks on the sheet](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/fichas/webhooks/). # Session clock > Marking the start, the breaks and the end of a game session: the clock everyone sees, the marks in the chat, the automatic break and the Sessions tab, with the record and the notes of each session. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/mestres/relogio-da-sessao/ The clock measures how long each game session lasts. The game master starts, pauses and ends it; everyone in the room sees the time running, and each step is marked in the chat, with the time. Sessions are numbered in the room: **Session 1**, **Session 2**… ## Where it is - **On the tab strip of the room chat**, at the end, next to the **⋯**. That is where the game master sees the green **Start session 1** button. - **On the room’s button, in the left bar:** while the session runs, a ring around the initials goes around once per hour of play, with the minutes below it. It shows on any screen (Home, Explore, Files). - **On a phone**, the clock is the second line of the room’s title. **Start session** is in the room menu (☰), and tapping the clock opens **Pause the session**, **See the sessions** and **End the session…**. - **In the Sessions tab**, with the record of each session (see below). Clicking the time on the clock opens that tab. ## Starting, pausing and ending - **Start session:** the time starts running, with the green dot pulsing. - **Pause the session** (⏸): the dot turns amber and the time stops. **Resume the session** (▶) goes on. - **End the session** (■) asks right there: **End now?** **End** closes the session; **×** or Esc give up. - Right after the end, the clock shows the summary, like **Session 1 · 3h30**, and ▶ starts the next one. - Hovering over the clock shows when the session started and the breaks. The big number is the **time of play**: breaks don’t count toward it and show up separately. > **Ending during a break** > > The session ends when the break started, and that last break doesn’t count. Ending days after a break doesn’t add those days to the session. ## What players see Players see the clock from the moment the session starts, without the buttons. Before that, nothing shows for them. Only whoever runs the room (the owner, the assistant game masters and whoever has the game master role) starts, pauses and ends it. ## The marks in the chat Each step becomes a line in the room chat: - **Session 1 started at 19:05** - **Break at 20:10** - **Back at 20:22 · 12 min break** - **Session 1 ended at 22:47 · 3h30 of play · 12 min of breaks** The start and the end show as dividers, which helps to find the session in the history. `/prink`, which hides system messages, doesn’t hide these. ## The Sessions tab The **Sessions** tab keeps the record of each session of the room. It opens from the room menu → **Tabs** → **Sessions**, or by clicking the time on the clock (on a phone, from **More** → **Sessions**, or by tapping the clock). - **At the top, the session in progress:** the time of play, when it started, the breaks, the timeline (play in green, breaks in amber) and who is in the session. The pause and end buttons are there too. - **Earlier sessions:** each with the day, the time range, the time of play and the breaks. Click one to see its timeline, who was there and the notes. - **Title and notes:** the game master clicks **Edit**, gives the session a title (“The fall of Vel’Kar”) and writes the notes: what happened, what is left for next time. Players read them, and the tab becomes a campaign journal. Everyone in the room sees the tab. If the room shows each person only the history since they joined (**Room settings → Permissions**), whoever isn’t a game master sees only the sessions since the first time they joined. ## Automatic break If the room is left without a game master for 2 minutes while the clock runs, it pauses by itself, at the time the last game master left, and the chat says so: **Automatic break at 23:12 · no game master in the room**. Reloading the page, or the connection dropping and coming back quickly, doesn’t pause anything. Back in the room, **Resume the session** goes on from where it stopped; **End the session** closes it at the time of the break. > **A forgotten tab** > > For the clock, the game master is in the room while it is open, even in another tab or in the background. When the game is over, end the session. # Creating sheets > Room sheets and tables made with HTML, CSS and JavaScript, by hand or with help from an AI. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/fichas/ In RPG Desk, a sheet is a web page: **HTML** for the fields, **CSS** for the looks and, if needed, **JavaScript** for the math. **rpgdesk.js**, RPG Desk’s library, connects the page to the room: - what the player writes is kept in the room and shows up right away for the game master; - roll buttons roll in the chat, with the 3D dice, for everyone; - only the sheet’s owner and the game masters write; others only read, and rpgdesk.js locks the fields by itself; - parts of the sheet can be for the game master only, and they never even reach the players. The sheet below is working. Type in the fields and click **Roll Strength**: *Working example:* [Minimal sheet](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/exemplos/en/minimal-sheet.html) It does not have a single line of JavaScript: each field has a `data-field` attribute, and each roll button, a `data-roll`. ## Three ways to make one **With an AI** Copy RPG Desk’s guide to the AI (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini…), describe the sheet and install the file it gives back. See [Create with an AI](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/fichas/com-ia/). **By hand, in one file** One `.html` file, with the manifest inside and the two rpgdesk.js lines. Start with the [tutorial](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/fichas/primeira-ficha/). **In a package** Several files (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, images, fonts) in a `.zip`, with more than one sheet or table. See [Packages with several files](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/fichas/pacotes/). ## From file to room 1. **Test it in the browser:** open the sheet’s file (double-click it). Outside RPG Desk, rpgdesk.js enters **test mode**, with the data in the browser and a band in the corner to switch roles. 2. **Install it in the room:** as game master, in **Room settings → Plugins → Install plugin…**, choose the `.html` (or the `.zip`). RPG Desk checks the file and tells you what to fix, if anything. 3. **Use it:** the sheet shows up in **New sheet…**, in the library. > **Tip** > > Sheets and tables are the same thing inside. A **room table** (an NPC list, a calendar) is the same kind of page, which sits below the library for the whole room. See [Room tables](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/fichas/tabelas/). ## In this section [Your first sheet](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/fichas/primeira-ficha/): The tutorial: from an empty file to the sheet installed in the room. Page: https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/fichas/primeira-ficha/ In this tutorial you make a simple sheet, for the game “Quick Adventure”: name, level, two attributes with a computed modifier, a roll button for each and a gear list. All you need is a text editor (Notepad will do; VS Code is better) and the browser. ## 1. The skeleton Create a file called `my-sheet.html` with this: `my-sheet.html` ```html

Hero

``` Three parts: - **The manifest**, the ` ``` `doc.compute` saves `str_mod` whenever `strength` changes. It is the right way to keep computed values: see [JavaScript on the sheet](https://docs.rpgdesk.com/en/fichas/javascript/#computed-fields). ## 6. A list For the gear, a list where each item has its own fields: ```html
Gear
``` The `
